My new C2D system and overclocking

Yesterday i wanted to build a system for $400. As it was meant to be programming system therefore i didn't need any graphic card in it...

Initially i was thinking of building the system on AMD packages which are available these days... but fortunately i just checked the review of the motherboard available on these package which is ASUS M2V-TVM.. and on the newegg i found that none of the 6 user rated it 5 star.. and average was 2 star.. reviews can be read here. as i wanted the system to be stable so i looked for seperate AMD MB and processor... simple X2 3800+ is costing around 10k and a reasonable motherboard with no overclocking MSI one was above 5k... and other options were around 6k...

Then i got this great deal on E4300 with ASUS P5L-VM 1394... mATX with gigabit LAN and firewire port and Intel 945G chipset.. although its the older chipset but it does support new C2D..

So here are the final config for the system
E4300
ASUS P5L-VM 1394
1 Gig RAM (2 x 512 MB DDR2 533)
160 GB HDD
and casing, mouse, keyboard..
+ 17" philips monitor second hand

It all costed around $450... which look reasonable... a little above the budget but i think it will be worth it..

ASUS board has some preliminary overclocking feature available.. i have not installed all the softwares yet... esp the overclocking software.. but i managed to overclock in the BIOS without increasing the voltage

So my current speed of 1.80 C2D is 2.2 (245 x 9) , i tried to push it to 2.4 (266 x 9) but it failed to boot. So i will testing this 2.2GHz with some benchmarking and will report it stability..

i have also seen that there is new beta BIOS on the web.. and i think i will give it a try after some days... but by that time i will try to see how stable 2.20 Ghz is...

Its really nice to get all this assemble in such a low price point and if it works like i m expecting it to then i think i will be really pleased with it. My last system was AMD X2 3600+ which disappointed me... so lets see how this one does.

Any input suggestion will be much appreciated..
can't do any gaming benchmark but if u want me to try some free CPU benchmarks then you can forward me the link.

945G chipset will overclock like crap so you are probably limited. Just find the best speed you can manage and don't worry about temps. My E4300 ran at 3.3 GHz and the temps is hovering around 70C so yours will surely hover around 50C under load below 2.6 GHz.

i will be pretty happy if i manage to touch 2.4 stable with no issues and without voltage increase... 30%+ increase in my point of view is pretty reasonable...
