My new 6800 NU will not OC.

I just got a new BFG 6800 NU OC, and, while I am more than satisfied with the speed increase over my previous FX 5900, I am a bit disappointed that it will not overclock, at least not that much at all. Defaults are at 350/700, and it will only do 360/720.

There have been a few threads pointing toward modded BIOSes to allow for 1.5V. So I got hold of a BFG 6800 NU OC BIOS, and modded the 3D VID to 1.5V. This did not have any effect whatsoever, no matter what I tried.

Am I doing something wrong or overlooking something? Yes, I did run Drivercleaner and start with a fresh nVidia driver install, so any previous driver conflict is not an issue. Also, the temps never exceed 64C load. So I'm not quite sure it's the temps either.

I understand that overclocking is the luck of the draw; however, with so much success I've seen other people have, I think I should have better luck.

I'd appreciate any help or suggestions you might be able to offer. Thanks.

Did you softmod it? I have heard that after softmodding, some people cannot overclock at all with stable results, but take the softmod over the OC since it yields better performance.

From the start, I never softmodded it, and neither do I intend to. I've read in some places the same thing you have: that after softmodding, some people cannot overclock at all with stable results.

However, there are lots of people who have been able to take the 6800 NU from stock 300/700 to over 400/900. At least give me some on the RAM! I'm going to take this the next step and try flashing my card with a Leadtek BIOS to see if that helps.

how good is your psu as i could not oc my bfg 6800oc past like 360/800 and when i put a 500w psu i got 415/910 so it could be your psu not giving it the power it need

I'm running this on an Antec Truepower 480, so it's not a power issue. I just got a dud piece of silicon, and I'll live with it.

I don't understand... You'll flash the card with bunk BIOS' but you won't try to softmod it, why? Seems that even if it didn't overclock you would still be better off with 16 pipelines and 6 vertex shaders. (assuming of course you could do that successfully)

yea if it wont OC well try the softmod that will get you some more speed there
