My new 4670 wont fold

I can't get it to fold. I was running a 2400pro before and it would fold but it was to slow. I uninstalled the F@H program and deleted all the left over folders. I reinstalled F@H but it crashes once it tries to run the core.

I had to install the 4670 with the drivers from the included CD. The newest CC from ati's site wouldn't work.

Maybe the driver on the CD is too old. I think it require at least Catalyst 8.3 to work. I suggest you get a driver cleaner software to get rid of old drivers trace then try the newest ones from the AMD site.

Just in case you have never used a driver cleaner program, they take a while. I didn't realize this and was kinda getting impatient with mine. They are kinda like a virus scanner but they look for old drivers not viruses. Depending on the size of your hard drive you could be looking at quite some time.

I had a similar problem with a HD3850 recently and couldn't find the cause even after several driver reinstalls. I downloaded and installed Driver Cleaner Pro after removing the drivers once more, and then reinstalled them again. The client finally worked. The utility made sure there weren't any leftover files, which seemed to be causing the weird behavior and client crashes.

The 4670 driver doesn't appear to be included with the 8.9 CC release. I have to use the driver from the CD. After running 8.9 the comp reboots with just vga. THe card works fine with the included driver, it just wont fold. The message says f@h has ran into a serious error and shuts down. It just doesn't want to run

Go to the ATI website and download their latest driver. If it doesn't work then something with your Windows install is screwed. You'll have to reload more than likely, or possibly might get away with one of those driver cleanup tools. You MUST have the latest drivers to fold properly!!!

I don't know how many more ways I can say this: The only way to get Vista to see anything other then standard VGA is to use the driver that comes on the CD with the card. I have done a complete Vista install then installed the the 8.9 CC from the site and it is listed as just VGA. Once you tell Vista to search the CD it id's it as a 4670 and installs the driver.

No one has posted saying they got on these to fold.

I'm sure a couple of our knowledgeable ATI folders will check in on this (metallicafan or evil alchemist) as soon as they see the thread. Having said that, I'm not sure if that card is supported by the client yet. The way I read this thread still confuses me but generally from what I could gather, the client needs an update for this card. Since the card is so new, there will probably be Cat updates for it as well.

Part of the price we pay for having the latest card right after it hits the streets...

Luck and hang in there!

You're welcome. With the speed that thing change in the folding universe, I'm sure it isn't going to be too long before you'll have that card crunching away...

I looked up the specs on that card and it looks like it will be a pretty good bang for the buck in both gaming and folding. Power usage on it appears to be excellent. I think you made a decent choice.

Yeah I think that these cards came out after (or maybe about the same time) as the Cat 8.9's. If you look here there is no 4600 series listed under the AND product support for the 8.9 drivers. Thats why these 8.9s wont work for you under Vista. They must have a different driver on the CD that supports these cards. Hopefully the 8.10s will come out early in December with support for these cards.

Im sure Mike will be working to support these cards fairly soon. :) I do agree with the previous posters - This this will be good on energy efficiency and I would bet, based on the shader count, it will perform much like the 3870s.

Can you tell at all from the CCC what version of driver gets installed from the CD? Just curious. :)

A quick Google search shows you are not alone, neither ATI nore their resellers Sapphire etc cards seem able to "see" the 8.9 cats.

I have had this issue before with other product and very often a call to tech support will point you to either Beta drivers or they may email them etc.

Living on the bleeding edges sucks huh?;)

Luck

The 4670 & 4750 will not running F@h home yet.

The client is not programed to recgonized these cards yet.

A fix for this is currently in the works.

yeaaaahhhhhh - I've been itching to get an ATI card, but dragging my feet because of this non-compatability.
