My Mountain Mods Experience

So mountain mods had looked like the perfect WC case company to me.
They make custom cases that fit with the Thermochill PA120.3 radiators...

I had ordered around $900 worth of stuff from them a few months ago
when building my new rig.

Recently, when ordering 2 of their $9 3x 5.25" inch bay fan adapters
there was a little problem. I wanted black, but I got clear.

Now I'm not one to complain about little things usually.

Even though it lists in the description that it comes in default black
and shows a picture of a black unit on their website:

it does not come in default black,
you need to choose the extra $1 option, which I was not aware of.

No problem, I thought. So I sent them a polite e-mail explaining my problem.
How I had to pay a combined shipping of $16 just to receive 2x $10 items.

In the store owner's reply message, he basically said "Too bad, so sad".
"You can return it... But you'll also be subject to a 15% restocking fee,
because without that we wouldn't be able to stay in business."

That's why Mountain Mods will never be getting my business again.

When one of the UV lights I had bought from Petras tech shop burnt out,
they sent me one free of charge, free shipping, no hassle.
Petra's tech shop all the way.

/end rant

This was all after a "Paypal error" which prolonged my wait by 2 weeks.

Mountain Mod's a small shop. Seems like it's run by one guy. He even answers the phone.

I bought a duality from then last year and the customer service was alright, not like evga or newegg, but decent. I got what I wanted. It did take almost a month to get my order shipped though, because they didn't have the case in stock.

What I will complain about is.... they nickel and dime you for every little thing. My case didn't even come with screws or plates for my 5.25'' bays. You even have to buy those! I mean... WTF?! I spent almost $600 for a damn case. At least give me motherboard stands/screws.

Mountain Mods will never get another cent from me. The case is nice and roomy for a water cooling projected but for the money... I expected a whole lot more.

Also, I'm sure the economy is hitting them hard too. I bet that's why they're so assy with you on your return.

i have trouble spending over 200 bux on a case yet alone 600 lol... that is pretty crappy though considering they must make a tonne on those cases... the materials dont cost that much.

I've never dealt with MM before and don't plan to [shipping is pretty much 4/5 of the case to Aus]. Are you sure you said you wanted to upgrade. Maybe they didn't read it properly and jumped to conclusions. Apparently the people are nice but yes, order times vary and most people don't expect to wait more than a week when they fork over the cash. MM is a tiny shop with big ideas and hopefully will continue to grow. I hope that a rep reads this and addresses it more formally.

IMO boutique products REQUIRE boutique service and etiquette.

Thanks for the heads up. They were on my short list, no longer.

Unfortunately, the person I was speaking to was the store owner.
I'm assuming there won't be a rep addressing this anytime soon.
