What I want:
  • 2.2GHz O/C
  • A *QUIET* system (not silent, but not a jet engine)
  • Stable, blah blah
What I have planned:
  • CPU: Athlon Mobile 2500+
  • Mobo: Abit NF7-S
  • Heatsink: SLK900A
  • CPU Fan: Panaflo 80mm Low Noise
  • RAM: 512MB Corsair XMS PC 3200
  • Case Fan: 1 80mm Vantec ThermoFlow, exhaust
So, will this get the job done? In particular I'm kinda wondering about the RAM and heatsink/fan combo. Not sure if they're the best.

That will easily get the job done. You might want to consider a Tt Smart Fan II instead, it's a matter of personal preference. It can be turned down to very low RPMs to save on the noise factor. The RAM is fine, it typically can hit PC3500 speeds with good timings. The board will offer you some versatility with the voltages and that chip goes along with it very well. 2.2 GHz on that setup would be a breeze, you could probably do 100-200 MHz more while still keeping it stable and quiet depending on the chip.

You can fit a 92mm fan on that heatsink right? If so, I would go that route instead of the 80mm fan. Moves more air and sounds the same, if not quieter.

Even better, the 70mm TMD fan is the 900A's best friend. Kept my CPU under 40C up to 2.4 ghz. Oh and did I mention it is almost completely silent? I can't even hear it if it's the only piece of hardware running in the comp.

You can probably do 2.2 at 1.55-1.65v easy... I agree with maxx about oc'n higher...

2400-2600mhz is noticeably faster and easily done at moderate voltage levels if you get a good stepping.

thats what impatient people do. personally i think its better to work your way up then to jump to a speed and voltage and hope for the best.

back to the point mnemonic, id suggest a zalman 7000 series fan. if you dont think it will fit look here...

also id suggest a dfi infinity nF2 over the abit just because theyre known to overclock a little better on average. everything else looks a-ok.

good luck with your build and oc. :)
