My mistake or Newegg’s?

I ordered a new hard drive a couple of weeks ago:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148062

Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 ST3250823A 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive – OEM

Item description says IDE interface, right? They end up sending me the serial version:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148065

Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 ST3250823AS 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive – OEM

The drive I received has an “S” at the end to signify that it’s the serial version (not to mention a serial connector!)

I requested an RMA and clearly described the problem with the drive and sent the drive back at a cost of 8 bucks to me. No biggie, I thought, people make mistakes. I get the replacement drive and sure as hell it’s the same drive – the serial version!

Now my question: Is there something wrong with me to assume that just because the drive is described to have an IDE interface, that it should also actually have an IDE interface? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm just wondering if I am missing something.

It's totally your mistake. Just saying it's an IDE drive doesn't imply in any way that you can connect it through an IDE interface.

:p Sorry. NewEgg sent you the wrong drive.

I had the EXACT same problem on th EXACT drive!!! Oh well, I just used SATA instead.

Good news: Called Newegg and they said it was a warehouse mistake. They said they would refund the money for the drive and credit us 25 bucks for our trouble when they get the drive back. Just when I was about to say bad things about them they go and be nice.

Someone at Newegg's New Jersey warehouse is in trouble, I'll wager.

I love happy endings.

This must have happened to quite a few people, thats maybe why they are giving you $25 to cover your expense.

Watch this $25 be store credit :p

one good thing about the egg .. if you complain just a little bit they will almost always refund what you spent on RMA's YMMV>

Not this time. It took them a week from when they received my 2nd return to when they actually opened it. While I did get my refund today, the 25$ was a lie and now they aren't responding to my emails. I suppose I'll have to call them to see if I can hold them to their word.

When you are as big as they are a few trampled customers means nothing. They can afford to lose some, and they just lost one.

While it wasn’t a big loss for me, the Egg cost me a bit of green and it was entirely their fault.

A friend of mine was browsing Newegg's website and when he saw Seagate ST3250823A listed, he first thought he was looking at a SATA drive because the model number begins with "ST". So I wonder if the people who fulfilled your order made the similar mental mistakes.

One of my friends ordered a drive from newegg and they shipped IDE when he ordered SATA and he got to keep the IDE. I believe it was a 250GB Seagate also. Somehow they also shipped him 2 SATA drives. I guess he got lucky!

If you really want to get their attention, post a reply on www.resellerratings.com. I had an issue where they wanted to charge me a re-stock fee for defective ram. After giving them a "dissatisfied" rating, they not only dropped the re-stock fee, but also refunded my return shipping and sent me a free t-shirt and a neat little Logitech desktop pen pencil holder with clock and thermometer. :)
