After installing my 7970, here is my mini review:
1) On my 30" monitor, at 2560x1600, it is fast enough to play any game at max/virtually maxed settings -- overclocked at 1125 core x 1575 mem mhz. At stock, it is not fast enough to max out BF3.
2) It is not a quiet card. Over clocked, the fan hits into the 40% range pretty easily, and at that level is audible over my quiet case fans.
On the whole, I am quite happy with it. The ability to run three monitors at once is very cool.
