My Maxtor drives head keep resetting

Ya Maxtor Drive( 80 gig) is less then a year old and every like 2 minutes I can hear my hard drive's head reset and my hole computer slows down for a little while. Are Maxtor drives suppose to do that? Becuase its really annoying listening to my drive make a werid noise every so often.

Is this just a falty drive or are maxtor drives suppose to do that? :confused:
 
I had a similar issue with one of my Maxtor HDDs (a 120 GB one). I used Maxtor's HDD diagnostic tool to fix it. No idea what was fixed, though.

1 - download and run Maxtor's diagnostic utility and pray that it fixes your problem.
2 - vow to never buy Maxtor HDDs again.
3 - profit!! :D
 
iirc, some say that this is due to heat, the head resetting. now i can not and have not had the chance to prove this. honestly, i have used all brands of hard drives and yet to have a problem with any of them. ice czar would be more knowledgable and be able to link you to the information.

But if you run a diagnostic utility doesnt that delete everything off of your hard drive? :confused:

did that actually fix it, i have 2 maxtor drives that do this, a 40gb and a 60gb.

yea, ill never by a maxtor drive ever again, they suck. ive had 6 go bad on me.

2x10gb
2x40gb
1x60gb
1x120gb

It appears to have fixed it. The issue hasn't reappeared so far...

Over what kind of time period and out of how many HDDs?

this was across maybe 3 years, over a few different systems.

If the failure rate over such a time period is more than 20%, I'd definitely be looking at HDDs from a different manufacturer :)

Like Seagate! I have a 180 gig Seagate hard drive and it is so quite!!! and they have a 5 year warrenty! but they arnt cheap.

Seagate, Samsung, Hitachi. Any other brand is suspect at best ;)
