I got a new 120 gig and i can cleary hear the hd from 4-5 feet a way , whats up with that?

Heh, you probably have a DM +9 too.
Try a D740x with the normal ball bearings on for size with AAM turned off ;)

ahh damn, i just got a DiamondMax Plus 9 (still waiting for AS5 before i build the rig :D), it's loud? like, how loud?
 
I got a 20g about 3 years ago. When I first turn it on it sound like it was broke. Ohh well I can deal with the nose as long as it works. In fact it still works to this day.
 
i have a diamond max 9 40gb 7200rpm drive.

good drive, nice n fast, but it has a high pitched noise (a slight whine), which gets into your head while you try to sleep. Apart from that, i cant hear it.

I think its a FDB drive actually...
