My main PC, the HP in my signature, will not reboot. We had a powe blip here at my house for about one second, and then everything was fine. However, the PC will no longer load the OS. It will show the bios screen, and allow me to enter the setup and boot priority menus. However, it will not load the Operating System, nor will it enter the system recovery menu. I think my hard drive is the ***ked.

if you have another computer, make a win 95 or 98 startup disk, goto the command prompt, then insert another disk with a scandisk utility and run it. See if it finds any disk errors on the hard drive.

If your bent set on the computer's hard drive being broke................... time to get a new one and do a fresh install im afraid (only if this is the problem).
Or, if you still have a service agreement with HP, contact them. They will help you (note: sometimes its best not to say it was an "act of god", and just that one day it "broke", cough cough).

You also might want to post this in the general hardware section, or in the disk drive section.

~Hope this helps

Is your bios recognizing the hard drive? Any selection screen for safe mode or anything?

Did the computer power off during the power blip? Have you pulled the plug, waited 30 seconds and plugged it back in? Did you some how anger the folding gods? Does this beer gut make me look fat? WAIT...scratch the last one :p

When the power went off, it turned itself back on, which it should not have( Even though the power was off for less than tw seconds). I unplugged the computer, and powered down the PSU, waited for about a minute, and turned it back on. It went to the bios screen, and then nothing. I went into the setup section of the bios, and it recognized the harddrive and did a quick check of the HD, and it said it was fine, but the OS won't boot.

Unfortunately, my "warranty" from HP expired(90 Warrenty).

I am pretty sure that the Processor is fine due to it booting up and going to the bios screen. Also, the graphics card shows the bios screen, so I am guessing that it is fine, as well as the psu, mobo, and ram.
