This is the screen on my Macbook. The picture is taken in a room with no lights on, the screen is displaying black from a dead pixel test.

When playing movies dark scenes have a grayist cast, blacks are shades of gray, which darker shades further up the screen. Would you have Apple replace the screen?

The picture kind of exaggerates it. Its not as bad as it looks. Something odd though, when I tilt the screen a bit, I get this:

in my experiences Apple is very good at replacing waranty items. I've had three hard drives an LCD, and a hinge replaced. One hard drive, the LCD, and the hinge was all on a 15" PB...the other two hard drives were on my mac mini. I'd deffinitely take it to them or an authorized apple repair shop to have it looked at.

There are no Apple owned stores around here, so I'll take it to an authorized repair depot and let them look at it. I did describe it to them once, and we looked at one they had in the store, and it didn't look much different when actually displaying the desktop.

I think all the macbook screens are like this because mine has a grayish cast on the black scenes as well. This is only noticeable when it is pitch black in the room of course. The backlight is even but the actual black levels are really poor and come out much lighter compared to say my ACD.

how long has the display been on when you took that pic? it does need to warm up and usually takes about an hour...I know you say it looks different than others you have seen but give that a shot :)
