Was running the Mac OSX combined update when the iBook froze. It now takes forever to boot up, and once it does, it doesn't really work.

No input is received from either keyboard or mouse, but I know the system isn't frozen because the screen saver does kick on after 10 minutes. However, the screen saver is incredibly laggy (it's just the default random lines screen saver, and those lines move very slow).

The upper right battery indicator now shows the battery with a huge X across it (even when I remove the battery and run it just on AC power). When I keep the battery in, all 4 lights on the battery indicator remain on.

Any suggestions on what I do? I'm no longer under warranty and don't have any experience troubleshooting MACs. Is there a way I can get the update on a cd and somehow have the MAC automatically run it?

Thanks.

I would try one of the local Apple stores, the tech should be able to help you for free if your nice to them and might even had you a update CD :)
