My LCD is too bright.

I have an Sony S73 LCD. My problem is that its too bright. I have used other LCDs and they are so perfect, but this one strains my eyes. Here is the deal. There is a button called ECO: where I can select Low, Medium, High, User(custom). If I have it at anything other than Custom(full settings) then I can't view games good, they appear so dark.Under the Custom settings if open up yahoo.com(or any other white page) its very taxing on the eyes.
I thought LCDs were better for the eys and I have had first hand experience at school with them, they do not strain my eyes at all, but this one is really getting to me. Please help. What can I do ?
 
Um, isn't there a menu button or anything on the monitor? Brightness settings should be there, as well as contrast, image adjustment, etc. I'm not familiar with your monitor so I can't help you out any more than that. :(
 
Yes there is, but I have not been able to figure out a mode that can be used for everything. If I set it low then games are dark, if too high well then you know what happens.
 
No its not that hard to switch. I just don't like to do it everytime. It is getting a little annoying. I never had this problem with my CRT.
 
With my Radeon card, I go to the display properties, click on the advanced button, then to the Color tab. I spent a few minutes playing around there and ended up with a beautiful picture. Give it a try.
Even if you don't have an ATi card, I imagine there has to be some kind of software adjustments you can make. Brightness, contrast, and gamma are what I had to play with.
 
Perhaps the games you're playing have separate controls for brightness, contrast, gamma, etc?
 
Most drivers have a specific color setup for overlay such as games and movies. Try that.

Also, brightness is a funny thing to complain about. Contrast I can see. Brightness though? Damn, my wallet is too small for my $100s.
 
Sony has the best menu system I have ever seen on a monitor, its its extremely easy to navigate and the profile type brightness setting is brilliant! (Im speaking for my hs93 menu system, not sure if s series are different)

Here is how mine works. Low, Medium, High, and User are all settings you can toggle through by hitting the light bulb button. Low-High are presets, and user is customizable on a scale of 1-100 when you select it, by hitting the arrow keys on the monitor to adjust it. The way I used to use it is in games I would toggle to the user setting which would be set to 95 brightness (brighter than high), then on my desktop I would toggle back to medium because I didn't need it as bright.
 
If your running Xp, just download a new theme that is darker then the original. This way you dont have to mess with settings each time you enter/leave a game. I use "sentinel theme black2"darker grey borders cut down on the sun effect from my monitor. Ive been using it for a little over a year. I have tryed to change to another theme but anything other then this one just seem to bright now. Im able to stare at my monitor for an extra 3 hours without sore red eyes!!!!! :D
