My KVM switch problem

Yeah so I have a 2 port Inland KVM which my friend gave me. I hoook up the cables to computer 1, boot it up. Hook up the cables to computer 2, switch the KVM to computer 2, boot it up. Now the problem is if i switch back to Compuer 1 with the kvm, the mouse stops working. Keyboard still works. And i can switch back and forth between computer 1 and 2 and computer2's mouse will work fine.

Anyone have the solution to my problem? Thanks
 
Maybe the KVM your friend gave you is broken, and that is the reason he gave it to you?

Bent or missing pins on the mouse or anything like that... Loose connections on KVM?

Or just buy a $5 mouse...
 
what kind of KVM b/c i know the 2 port dlink that we have a work has a keyboard command it will intercept and get the mouse working again, but if its a manual kvm meaning you have a knob you turn to switch computers you may be SOL
 
it's an Inland manual KVM. I dont think it's the pins because the mouse for Computer1 will work totally fine until I switch to Computer2 and turn it on. It is only after i turn on computer2 that the mouse on computer1 will deactivate.

it should be noted that after Comp2 is booted, and I switch it over to Comp1, a Beep sounds.
 
Um, it's because it's a manual switch.

In order to preserve the mouse and keyboard, or boot without keyboard errors, you need one of the automatic ones.

They keep a signal going to the mouse and keyboard to simulate a connected computer.

I had the exact same touble until i switched to a different one
 
probally the kvm is a inexpensive one that does not maintain the ps/2 signal when the port is switched. All of the newer kvm's (last few years) have this feature. If yours does not it is probally a barebones model
