My Idea

Yeah I'm new to the case modding scene and I'm just wondering if what I'm bouncing around in my head is feasible: I plan on taking a normal LCD screen and attaching it via a hinge of some sort to the side of a regular ATX case. That way when i'm not using my system i can fold the monitor flat against the case and I can take the LCD display wherever I take my case. Good idea? and is it possible for a nooberrific guy like me?

YOU'RE CRAZY!!
no seriously, thats what modding is all about if its in your head make it tangible.

Good idea.

Take two similar cases, bore out the inside of one. You'll need to build some type of frame to hold the screen portion of an LCD monitor. Maybe a 17" will do.

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=11-138-042&DEPA=1

Dimensions: 7.8" (W) x 16.3" (H) x 18" (D)

That one for example.

Literally, cut one of the cases in half so that it's about 4" x 16.3" x 18". Mount the monitor to your modified half case, house the power and DVI cables inside the half case, but the cases on wheels and attach with hinges at the back.

Of course you'll need to replace the front of the half case with something neat like a smoked piece of plexi or just a couple of low noise fans, but you can work that out.

Now that I'm finished daydreaming...

Those are great d00ds but i was thinking more along lines of the LCD swinging outwards from the side, kinda like how the side does for this case . That way I can have a plexi window in the side of the case so i can gaze at my PC's inner workings. :p BTW, I plan on placing the entire system on top of a computer desk so don't berate me about monitor placement for your eye health and all that :D , cuz it'll already be at eye level.

Another example..not mine but its damn sexy!

Hells yeah like that except I would install the display near the back, not the front. Exactly what I was planning. :D

I was gonna say it's been done but that's been proven i guess.

Yeah the monitor should definitely go toward the back of the case and swing forward to secure with the screen facing the computer to keep it safe.

That would be sweet.

Heh, a big component-filled Lian-Li with a big LCD attached. That's one heavy case.

You'd get a nice workout carrying it between LAN parties. :D
I'm going to do it, I just don't know when (probably before I go to college).

Would anyone know where I could get a bigass hinge that would support a LCD monitor? and has anyone ever attached something to a LCD monitor with screw or bolts?
