Looks like I need to double check my as5 paste and remount. But that OC is at 1.2V Core and 1.60V mem. I can do 3.8Ghz with 1.25V Core but I get about 10C more in temps.

Yeah that seems a little high for that cooler (venomous x I'm assuming). For reference purposes (I have the P6X58D and a TRUE with Scythe SFlex F push/pull) my cores just barely touch 80C at 4.2Ghz. My TRUE is lapped and I'm using MX-2.

Is this in an Antec 1200?

Yes Venomous X with Scythe S-Flex SFF21F 63.7 CFM in push/pull. All fans in the Antec 1200 are at low. Room temp is 70F/21C. I don't have the Venomous screws all the way down do to the problem with too much pressure causing the loss of memory channels. I was also running the Intel Burn Test with 8 threads.

Maybe my AS5 is a little too old, I have had the tube for over 6 years, it still seams all good when it comes out.
 
looks like a decent overlock but like blackdragon said temps seem quite high.

im running a megahalems and im running high 60c's at 4.2ghz with 1.30vcore.

but i have a slight advantage in terms of my case and mobo layout so the cooler gets fresh air first and im using push n pull high speed yates.
 
That is relatively high for an aftermarket CPU cooler. One would have expected about the same temps at the same level of an overclock with the stock Intel boxed CPU cooler.

After cleaning and reapplying AS5 and screwing down the spring bolts all the way down. I'm surprised it booted with all 6GB of ram instead of only showing 4GB.
 
Looks like you got a good chip but temps are high.

Post your temps after new TIM!
 
Well I remixed my AS5 and reapplied it (posted an updated pic above) now the only thing I'm left with is either seeing if my board will boot and see all 6GB of ram with more pressure from the middle nut/bolt on the VenX, or spending $15 on MX-3.

But I think for now I'll wait for a couple weeks for the AS5 to cure and just live with 60-65C under load. Maybe once the summer heat comes around I'll buy some MX-3.
 
Also, just a thought. When I ran a TRUE120 in an Antec1200 on an older DFI X48 motherboard with a core 2 quad, I found that having the pull fan on the true actually hindered cooling. There's already so much damn airflow sucking out of the back and top of that case that it must have created some kind of heat vortex. I don't know if this would be the same or not for i7, but it might be worth a shot.

Just out of curiosity, what are your temps if you jack the fans up to high? I'm running those scythes all over my case so I've got better case airflow, and I'd be willing to bet you'd see another 5C drop in temps or so with some better case airflow.

Hmm you might be right., I'll try taking the pull from off tonight. Right now it's
<--Case Fan<--Pull<--Heatsink<--Push<--Ram
The Pull and Case Fan are about 1 1/2 inches from each other, so maybe that could add to the problem.

If all the case fans are at max I really don't see much of a difference in load temps. Maybe 1-2C lower.
 
I would say only in the Antec 1200 though. Just something about the design with those two rear 120's.

What if you just jack up the two rear fans?
