Well after about two weeks of trying different multis and BLCKs I finally settled on 20x190 @1.3V (everything else on auto).

This is what else I tried (all running prime95)...

20x190 @ 1.3V - 24 hours prime95 stable
20x195 @ 1.3V - BSOD/Win Restart after about and hour
20x200 @ 1.4V - BSOD/Win Restart after about an hour
19x211 @ 1.35V - BSOD/Win Restart after 12 hours (max temps 82c)
19x208 @ 1.3V - BSOD/Win Restart after about an hour

The BSOD/Win Restart is just because I do not remember which ones caused BSOD and which ones restarted windows with the old windows recovered from an error message. Either way looks like I need to go past 1.4V to get to 4.0ghz and I'm not sure if the 200mhz is worth an 8c increase in temps. At 3.8ghz I get no higher than 60c playing crysis.

What do you think?

Try 4 threads of Prime95 64-bit + IntelBurnTest -- we've found that Prime95 by itself is weak sauce on the i7. Set IBT to low priority (P95 already does that automatically) and fire up a 3D game for 30 minutes during all that and see if it BSODs...

i agree, intelburntest finds instability much quicker than prime95 on the i7 platform. and running both together will also find instability quicker than a single program alone. with so many cores, you want them all doing different things and accessing different regions of memory as well as doing lots of I/O (gaming) to expose any weak links.

prime95 isn't weaksauce, it's just one tool of many that should be used if one cares about absolute stability. (if random weirdness and silent data corruption are OK with you, then by all means run 4.2 @ only 1.45V) ;)

Thanks I will check that thread out and try running more than one stress test. Interesting stuff.
