I'm looking for ideas..something to make it more exciting. But nothing too extreme. For example, bright colors and huge cathodes are a no-no. And preferably on the cheaper side of things if at all possible. I was thinking maybe a window etch, small paint job and some lighted fans? Something else? I'm open! Thanks!


 
Sleave the PSU wires to match your case. Black sleeving would really give your setup some class. Some yellow cathodes might be cool too :). Throw something in the front bays too, like a fan controller, or something that glows a bit :). As you said LED fans might be cool. You could also paint some logo or something on your window in invisible UV paint, and have something UV glowing behind it :)

Also... alot of work... but paint the inside of the case a matte black :rolleyes:
 
I don't mean to plug my own system, but I do believe some of the mods done on my system are right up your alley.

I cut and installed 2x80mm fans out the top for blowholes, made the window bigger (thus removing the ugly stock "rivets" in the door, added a fan controller, mounted a 120mm fan in the bottom 3 drive bays, used a pair of Coolermaster optical drive plates to give it a cleaner more uniform look.

I did look into painting the interior, matte black was my first choice, however I found it too much of a pain to remove the plastic "tool less" drive slides to make it worth my while.

Wreckless_Process: IMO the case is damn nice and very sturdy. It has great airflow and easy to work with. However, I do have a few gripes. My main gripe is the lack of space. As you can see by some of my pictures, with SLi, two hdds, and two optical drives, space is extremely limited. My other grip is the "tool less" design. I've never been a fan of anything other than plain old drive screws. Even drive slides get to me.
 
To Arcygenical: I like those ideas quite a bit. For the cable sleeving, I was over at casemodgod and saw the how-to on sleeving cables with split-loom. It probably wouldn't look quite as good as with a real sleeve, but I figured I'd give it a shot since it's so cheap. :p

And Wreckless: I *love* this case. The only downside I have is that dust collects pretty quickly in the front. That's easy to brush off though.

Edit: Sweet, thanks chongo! I've also put a 120mm fan beneath the drive. :D Do you think maybe a yellow LED fan would look good there? Assuming yellow is the color I go with. And the only reason there isn't something in the top drive is because that's where a lot of my spare cables go. :p Of course, if I sleeved them I might not need to do that.

I dunno about blowholes, my system's pretty cool as is, although it looks damn nice. :D

I have the Cent 5 and I am satisfied with it, I like the tool-less drive feature, my only complaints are the tool-less card clips, they're fine for my wireless card but I needed to screw in the video card because the clips just weren't that strong, also while the front mesh is great for airflow and looks cool, a ton of dust gets caught in there.
 
*Updated mod ideas*

What I'm thinking so far:

1: Add castor wheels (the article on casemodgod inspired me)
2: Splashn' dash with color. Probably blue, because blue looks good with black and silver. I have a blue TT Thunderblade already that I could put in the front, and would get one of these for the back.
3: Add a fan controler and sleeve the PSU cables black.
4: Possibly throw in a blue UV light and paint on a UV-reactive logo of some sort.

The total cost should be somewhere around ~$60 if I do my shopping right.

What do you all think of those ideas?
 
Well, one thing I'm trying to decide right now is what color to use. Red or blue? Yellow seems to be non-existant.
 
well, a nice bright red is always nice to look at, and it will usually brighten up just about any room.

go for blue if your wanting a more subdued color,
although, just about any color will look good with black and bare metal.
 
What do you mean "What colour to use?" If you're talking about cathodes, I have a link for almost *any* colour you'd ever need. If you're talking about the inside of your case, I think a black would make it classy... Yellow if you want an industrial look (can be reaaaly hot). Red or Blue for something contrasty. Purple for something eye-candyish but somewhat subtle. Neon pink if you're suicidal (or giving it to a girl?). Actually, neon pink would be awesome, not for you, but it'd still love to see it somewhere...

PS. Some wavelengths of blue LED light is more then enough to make basic colours fluoresce. I'm talking about bright yellow or orange... But it's such a risk getting all that set up, in case it doesn't work!
 
I mean fans, cathodes, everything. I definitely don't want a multi-color system. I'd be most grateful if you could provied the linkage. :D

Sunbeam makes yellow CCFL's Or you could always buy a white one and glue on a layer of yellow gel paper.

Last option... Get the sunbeamtech chameleon... You can choose like, any colour you want, and switch between them whenever (RGB dials, to mix LED colours... google it lol). Yellow, Green, Red, Blue, Purple, White, Teal, etc. These LED's are bright too, I bought one for my Gf's computer, she just plays with the LED's while her sims2 is loading :eek:

That's all I can find right now... You can also get some yellow EL wire, and buy yellow high brightness LED's off of ebay (cheap too) and make your own lighting fixtures. I've got some great ways to make some DIY laser leds.
 
Sweet, thanks a bunch for the links. Maybe I'll go yellow afterall, since those places seem to have them. IMO, yellow would look better than red. Do you know if that microdirect place ships to the U.S.? The only problem is that they don't have yellow fans. :/ Yeah, I've looked at the Sunbeam Chameleon..it looks pretty cool, but it seems a little superfluous.

Yes, but under 20$. I think a yellow, black and silver industrial theme would be awesome. I've always wanted to pull something like that off.
 
Hey, I never thought about doing an industrial theme like that..but it's a hecka good idea! Maybe a couple of those 12" yellow cathodes, some silver and/or black cable sleeving and one of these babies for the back. I'm totally open though, so any advice you guys have to give would be much appreciated! Thanks. :)
 
Those fans are fun. They're heavy and really well made. You can even remove the fan's *guts* to paint them. THey're a bit loud, but at 7v they move lots of air at a decent level of noise.
