A long time ago, I decided I wanted to watercool my computer. I researched and read up on it, and just couldn't afford it - until I got creative

I went to a local pet store and bought this pump for about $20. It is ALMOST silent, and pumps plenty of water for a single waterblock and radiator. Then, I went to Autozone and bought a heater core for $17. I searched online forums, and found a waterblock for $25 shipped. Last, I went to a local hardware store and bought a pair of 1/2" barbs for my res. and 5 feet of 1/2 ID, 5/8 ID vinyl tubing for $0.28 a foot. I assembled it in my case (except the waterblock, that is still in the mail to me and hasn't arrived yet) just to kinda measure things up a bit, and it looks pretty good so far. When I get the waterblock, I am going to leak test it for a day or so, and post back with more pics.

Here is how it looks without the waterblock (just imagine there is one there, and the lines are filled with blue coolant)

View from outside, looking through window (all you will see when it's done)

Total cost for this project is around $70, and I expect it to perform nearly as well as pre-configured setups that sell for over $150. If not, at least it's nearly silent (which is more than I can say for my Volcano 12......)

did you receive your waterblock? i'd like to see your results. $70 is just alittle over the price of a nice air heatsink and fan :D.

Ghetto Astronaut!!! Thats cool, hope it works out well for u. Ill be checking back once u have some results.

seventy bucks, damn.

Holy old thread batman! I guess you missed my other thread where I got everything set up and working.. Idle temps are around 31C, load temps (i havent really load tested it, but after gaming for a few hours) is about 36C or so. I will be getting a GPU block probably on monday, so my system will finally be nearly silent, although the temps will go up a few degrees.

but now people won't (as easily) appreciate your killer wiring job. Sucks :(

Eh, I don't know... I have shown a few of my friends, and they are still complimenting the wiring job. When I get my GPU block tom., I will be taking it all out and doing it over with some red LED's to light up the tubing a bit, maybe some color in the water

That is how it looks now, but when its totally complete (after GPU block), you won't be able to see those fan wires unless you are looking FOR them :D. I will be getting the GPU block installed when it gets here, and it will run

pump->CPU->GPU->rad->res->pump

Why didn't you use the original tubing design from the first picture? It looks like it uses less tubing which would marginally improve flow, not to mention it looked better.
