my headphones arent working with my computer

ok, i just built my computer (1st build) and everything is working great, but.........

i cant get my headphones to play anything. i plugged them in the side of my case (silverstone tj06) and i herd a "pop" noise and a very faint noise in my headphones, the problem is that i cant hear anything else. i tried the headphones with my sterio so i know they work. what could be the problem?

oh yeah and i have the ath-900s
 
im useing onboard sound for now.....and plugging them into any of the holes in the back from the motherboard doesnt help any.......

Ok since this is a newly built system, have you installed all drivers necessary - or more specifically have you installed the onboard audio drivers that comes with your motherboard? Also make sure the onboard audio device is enabled under ths bios, but in most cases it should be enabled by default.
 
i downloaded the drivers...i have it set to headphones....

how do i check if it is enabled in the bios?

i think i know what the proplem might be. i plug them in and once (only once :( ) they worked on the left side. they dont do it anymore. the headphones only have one cord comming out so i think the holes on the side of my case are for the left and right separately....how woul di fix this?
 
I find that sometimes audio hardware uses specific apps (for example Nvidia uses sound storm) sometimes these applications clash ( i can mute my speakers through both windows and nvidias control panel)

another thin i noticed is that on my motherboard (abit nf-70 if i do not connect the headers for front audio, then no sound will come out. all i will get is static.

the reason for your front header issue, is when not using front audio, you are supposed to short some portions of that header (it should be in your mobo manual). This is pretty common amongst mobos that have front audio headers.
 
how do u short them out? and i plugged them into every little hole they fit into and still nothing. i have my sound card set up so it will be the same in the control panel....im reall mad cause no one knows howe to fix this....and it is detected in my bios...ill try to reinstall the drivers

Follow your manual, they should say which ones to jumper....if it doesn't don't unless you are sure of what you are doing. Shorting the wrong thing can possibly damage your onboard sound.

Actually, what motherboard are you using, so I can do the research myself to make sure if that could even be an issue.
 
ok, yeah tere was jumpers on but i took them off because it said somewhere to take them off if u wanted to do something. i dont remember what though, ill look through my manuel
 
Haha, right as I began to read this I knew it had to be the jumpers...same thing happened to me on my first build :)
