my hdd are getting slow..

hi guy,
recently , my hdd ( 7200) are getting slow. i alright done disk defragment and using hdtune check error but nothing come out.
does anyone know why??

What do you mean by slow? Did you run HDTunes benchmark to get actual numbers?

Can you use performance monitor or other tool to see if something is hitting the disk?

Did you install an anti-virus or something like that recently?

it takes longer time to start wind.

Looks like something is flogging on it pretty good, i doubt it's a physical problem with the disk. Much more likely a Windows problem.

When you experience the slow down, pop open task manager and see what's using the most resources.

Yep something is going on, my 5 year old 320GB seagate OS drive averages over 100MB/s, max 130, min 60.

Have you run the HDD manufacturers tune/drive health software? From the sound of things, my take is that it's a software problem not a hardware problem.

I would look @ couple things....

1. how full is drive?

2. how did you defrag? I find that programs such as diskeeper or perfectdisk are much better.

3. what OS are you running and system specs....just in case?

4. is this a C: drive or non C: drive?

Also, if you can afford it think about getting an SSD even the cheaper models are going to be infinitely faster. Dont know how old your system is so....if its @ least sata 2 i would think about this.

If your disk is too full or not properly de-fragged, windows defrag sux, its just as well not have been done, these are the common culprits....I guess there is a chance that there is something wrong with the hardware itself.

you can try sfc /scannow command .......there was some program that also is freeware that checks for health of your drive.

If you have less than eeeer...i think @ least 15% left.....then it definitley full drive issues.

Might also wanna check pagefile or virtual memory settings cuz windows uses your drive if you run out of memory....i think.

The last option is to backup your files and try fresh install of windows and then it should be okay as long as there are no problems with drive itself.

The spikes are probably because this is an OS disk and you can not stop the OS from reading and writing to a drive when you are benchmarking it.

I can not explain why 90 MB/s is the max. This seems a little low even for a 4 year old drive.
Does health say anything bad about the drive?
