Since ive spent 98% of my computer life under the slave of shitty systems ( 133mhz, 266mhz 700mhz, 800mhz, 1.2Ghz WITH...rambus. )

Ive decided on several things. My computer will kick ass, but not make me want to rob a bank over the price.

SO.. Ive thought this would be a good system.
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
Athlon 64 939pin 3500+
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB

That's basically my entire system.. the RAM however ive not decided on... mostly cause Im not exactly sure what to buy that wont break my bank in the end ( IE... more than a grand will cause me to seek a weapon )
Im looking for at least 1GB to 1.5GB and nothing more of RAM

All of what I mentioned is about 795 from newegg, but from pricewatch for the cheapest stuff runs about 720

Enough about price at the moment.. Suggestions fellow [H] members? Diffrent hardware suggestions? Diffrent places to look? ( USA/Texas )

with that CPU, you'll need a better gpu than a 9800. I'd suggest save another $100 (or so) and get a 6800GT

I chose ATI because of one single solitary reason... HL2 :)

If Im correct in remembering, ATI is still king of directx and Nvidia still owns OpenGL
Ive used Nvidia all my life ( 3dfx as well ) and I figured trying ATI for once would be good.

Although if you can convince me otherwise why I should go for Nvidia instead of ATI im all ears and ready to learn :)

could always grab the newest 3000+ 64s and overclock to 3500+ with higher rated ram(PC3700 etc)

That could possibly save you some money to get that grakka upgrade from 9800Pro-->6800NU

I didnt want to overclock any part of the MB... yet at least. I have no experience with it.. and if I did.. id probably find the biggest fan in the world and attach it to the case to cool it completely :)

Anyway, I posted all that just so I could have a machine that would make HL2 beg for more when it came out on steam. cause im calling in sick when it does. *My uhh...brain hurts. Cant go to work.*
