Finally upgraded my monitor to a Sony g520P. Getting it up the stairs was tough, but once I got it onto my desk it was easy to setup. I first ran into some problems, but they seem to be fixed now.

The gaming quality is amazing. Playing CSS at 1600x1200 is awesome, and I found the default brightness of 50 to be perfect. I'll have screenshots and pics up later. The monitor only tilts, but the height is perfect for me. I love the "Picture Effect" feature to choose between Professional, Standard, and Dynamic. Dynamic is awesome for gaming.

This is the CRT right?

I didn't realise this range still existed.

The two lines are unfortunately part of the technology, they are guide wires to hold the grille in place or something like that.

For the blurryness, I don't know, I had a similar problem with my mitsubishi/nec diamondpro 930, it was kind of like a light bloom effect, I came to the conclusion that it was light bouncing back from the inner surface of the outer screen (if that makes sense) and illuminating the inner screen around the source of the light.

I fixed it by going LCD.

If your video card has dual outputs you could try the other one, or even a different card on a different PC, being analogue, this could also be an EMI problem, try rerouting the cables, or changing the position of the monitor, and maybe shuffling stuff around in your pc (move everything as far as possible from the video card).

Yes, it is a CRT. I'm glad that the lines serve a purpose, they arent visable unless the screen is white anyway. As for the blurriness, turning on cleartype has helped, but the problem just showed up before so I need to wait and see if it gets better or worse. Thanks for the help.

Aperature Grill monitors are notorious for blurry text and razor sharp game graphics. Thats normal. Shadow Mask CRTs are better for text but not as good for gaming.
