My friend doesn't believe what i'm telling him so he wants me to post on here for him and ask.

He wants to know if he can use a AMD XP Barton 2600+ on a board w/SD Ram.

hes got 3 or 4 stick of SDram and he can't get DDR at the present time. so that why he wants run that.
 
They're were a few older chipsets for Socket A chips that used SDRAM, but I don't think anything that wuold handle a fairly recent Barton chip.

And you should tell your friend if he can't affor to buy the memory, he's got bigger issues to attend to than worrying about memory for his computer. He should be saving is money all around then.

Sadly I don't have a PSU in the system with a K7SEM, or I'd pop a barton into it and let you know if it worked on that board.

Chances are there are some older Socket A SDRAM mobos you could find that can support a Barton, but I don't know how hard you'll have to look. And performance will certainly be compromised not only because you'd be using SDRAM, but because you'd be using a budget-oriented chipset.

*remembers the days when SDR was pretty much as good as DDR*
