today i got my ninja and was all excited about it.

soon as i got it out of the box i inspected the base and look!

thought it was just the plastic and peelingg it back a little we reveal a divot pretty close to the center of the copper base.

then i look at the box, and the support is all crushed. The base must have been banging against the bracets and stuff.

do u think this would affect temps? im prolly not gonna even try and just send it back to xoide for a replacement. Im not in hurry as i got my zalman 9500, but i really wanted to go fanless.

rma it man. you paid good money for that.

a ding is fine on any other part of the cooler bu not the contact area.

i say RMA

sweet, got an email saying that XOXIDE wont take it back. Its in their return policy. This is what i get for trying to save 10 bucks. I dont mind paying for return shipping (also in return policy) but damn wont take back defective stuff for a replacement? This isnt even a 'renter' return ala costco/frys. All i want is a non beat up cooler. Yeah i think this is first and last purchase there.

passing stuff on to the manufacturer is a poor excuse. I dont even get a 10 day thingy return for the same thing if its defective. Way to pass the buck.

Yea, RMA, those dings on the contact surface look pretty nasty. I would say that a good lapping would fix it, but why bother when RMA uses less energy lol. The dings on the heatpipes shouldnt effect anything though.

Xoxide won't let you return the cooler? Wtf. That's terrible customer service. Last time I buy ANYTHING there... And I've bought well over 400$ of stuff for friends and I at that store. Psht.

dood - that's shitty service.

i say you try your hand at lapping your heatsink to see if that buffs it down a little...

good luck.

yeah they got shitty phone hrs like a bank est time. So i cant call them cus i got a reg 9-5 like everyone else and when you try to call them on your lunch 1/2hr they put you on hold forever while listen to some retarded country music.

just so you guys know, its not just heatsinks they dont take back. Alot ot modding supplies like cathodes and stuff as well. So lets say spend 30 bucks on lighting and a few bulbs get cracked on the way over. Or how about them cheap ass .05 inverters blow in 10 minutes after you get them? Your SOL.

bummer, broheimer. I just fired off an e-mail to let them know I'm no longer a customer. sorry that they're being such utter fuckwits.

O, wow, they wont let you RMA, thats pretty stupid from a business standpoint. I vow to never order from there. I never have and now i never will, its a shame though, cuz they have some pretty sick stuff there.

For stuff like HSFs and anything else pretty much for that matter, i usually go through newegg anyway, theyre PR department is unmatched.

Besides, most of the stuff you can get on xoxide you can get on Newegg minus a few really crazy cases and mod supplies.

Throw me a PM, I know someone at Scythe who would be happy to resolve the issue for you.

the scythe products are really cheaply made and packaged, but they perform the best.. my ninja came in a battered up box and crushed base also

If they won't RMA it and you're really worried about it, couldn't you just lap it out? Hit it with some pretty coarse sandpaper to remove a good bit of material and then get finer and finer 'til it's nice and shiney. Might be a good idea even if you didn't have the nick in the base.

That is pretty shitty of Xoxide. I won't consider buying from them anymore. But I have a ninja and I think that nick might be clear of where the cpu makes contact. You should PM the Donut.

As long as the nick is an "indentation" only (ie, no ridges) you'll be fine as it's outside of the "die" area... If there's even a .1mm ridge around that nick... Heh.

That's far from the center, it shouldn't be a major problem. Just use it like normal, you won't even know the difference.

If you're that worried about it just lap it. Start with something like 240 grit and work through 400, 600, 800 etc up to 2000 or whatever you can get your hands on. It'll end up looking better than anything you would've got back through an RMA

I have had some bad luck with Xoxide before. One time though I got lucky with them. One of their employees was a member of the [H] and helped me get some items replaced. BUt for the life of me I cannot remember his name. Great guy though. :)

10.Returns will not be accepted for any of the following: heat sinks, CPU coolers, VGA coolers, water-cooling products (including but not limited to kits, cases, blocks, reservoirs, pumps, radiators, tubing, and coolant), sleeving and sleeving kits, wire loom, and consumables (including but not limited to UV paint, UV Dye, thermal compounds, polishing compounds and caffeine products). Defective water-cooling products and heat sinks should be returned to the original manufacturer.

well it is stated in their return policy. but yeah, it's a pretty shitty policy. the only time i will ever shop there again is during their crazyass operation x's.

LOL Why don't they just say "Returns will not be accepted for any of the following: ALL OF OUR ITEMS!"

that sucks man..but thanks for the heads up on xoxide. i'll never buy from them now.

I don't think I've ever bought anything from there before...but I certainly won't now. Thanks for the heads up.

A miniscule dent away from the center? I doubt it'll change temps even 0.1c

haha you paid over credit card right? Call up your card company dispute it. Say they did a bait and switch basicaly. Sent you out a POS item when u order a NEW heatsink. See how they like the charge back LOL...

Not a bad idea. But it's probably more trouble than the 30$ HSF is worth. Course, you might get your refund and the ability to keep the HSF.

Other than their return policy, I adore the service Xoxide has given me in the past... Especially their shipping options to Canada.

thats good news, if worse comes to worse, ill lap it since i see circular ridges from manufacturing.

Depends what credit card you use. If you use Visa/MC, it's a PITA, because they make you fill out paperwork to tell them the same info you gave them over the phone (which is what triggered them to send you the paperwork).

If you pay with Discover Card, you call them up and that's it. The dispute will be handled. If you lose, then you lose, but my guess is the OP would win this case.

I think I got my XP-90 from them and all was well. But it'd take a disaster it in the box that Thermalright ships it in.

wtf..I thought Xoxide was a real store? That's an Ebay type policy to not exchange defective hardware..

Well that's shitty! While it may be true that the damaged merchandise the OP received could still function properly, imagine if it was so FUBAR that it was totally unusable (picture snapped heatpipes.) Now imagine that instead of a $30 heatsink it was a more expensive item.

Yes, they do state that you cannot return such items in their return policy, however I think that in itself is reason enough to not give them my business.

Add one more to the list of people no longer shopping at Xoxide
