I used to get a average of 150fps or so when I do stress test on CS:S but now I can't get it past 110fps, what's going on? my FPS during play is down also, hardly gets up past 100 most of time, if it does it's probably 120 or so. I haven't changed anything on my computer as in setup wise or hardware. any clue guys? I have 1900 xtx ATI, Pent. 4 oc to 3.4mhz, 2mb of ram(667), raptor HD Max operating temp is roughly mid 70's to low 80's with 100%fan blowing.(same temp as before)

What does that mean, sry i'm not that familiar with comp.. terms.

Not sure, but my ATI CAT. shows this in the ATI overdrive section

Graphics processor request is 689MHZ, when playing it does reach the requested number

Graphics memory request is 800MHZ, when playing the number gets up to 792MHZ

3.4mhz? Really... 2mb of RAM? Damn dude.

Dl ATiTool and force the speeds to run at 650mhz core and 775 DDR3 Effective speed (1550mhz), and Killa meant is your CPU bottlenecking the card, and/or is your video card running at 2D clocks (500mhz/1GHz)?

I tried to use atitool and force it to those numbers but whenever my core gets up to that point of 620-650, artifacts show up and sometimes my comp. locks up. Should I raise the volt for the core? if so how much? My VGPU is at 1.175 V, MVDDC is at 2.086 V, MVDDQ is at 2.086 V, and VDDCI is at 1.486 V

doesn't the vid. card automatically switch to 3D when it detects it like when I play games? I see the numbers change when playing CS.

I notice that almost all PCs start to run slower the longer you use them without a reformat. I have no idea why, maybe we abuse them, maybe our HDDs get filled up with crap and garbage that we can't fix. I notice it on every system I use. Right after it's built, the first boot up, it is fast. Very fast. However, as I use it, customize it, abuse it, download a bunch of crap and change a lot of settings, it slows down. Booting up takes longer, games take longer to load, framerates slow down, crashes are more frequent and anything involving moving large amounts of files takes longer. It seems natural to me, that a system will slow down the longer you use it.

kra you comment many vary because not all Hardforum users download junk and open viruses. my computer still runs the same as when i installed the raptor with windows. maybe a little slower 2sec on the start up but thats about it. as for the FPS i also have the same issue with my card "ATI" which i am not sure about i recommend you not to use the default drivers and go with some MODed ones

Ditch IE n00b. :p

Guys, guys, guys...

1. We all know the OP meant 3.4 GHz and 2GB, obviously.
2. Firefox with the google toolbar has worse performance issues than IE. If you really wanted to recommend a browser based on performance, I'd suggest Opera. That said, IE never caused any problems for me.
3. A decrease from 150 FPS to 110 FPS is not the same as, say, a decrease from 60 FPS to 20 FPS, even if they are the same in terms of frames per second decreased. A decrease like this could have been caused by something as innocent as new drivers, a more fragmented hard drive, or something else along those lines. It might be worth it to see if for some reason the card is defaulting to 2D clocks, but the CPU isn't going to be "throttling." I'd suggest defragging or if you really want to make sure everything's OK a reformat. But other than that, there really isn't much difference between 150 FPS and 110 FPS anyway.

haha, sry yeah 3.4 GHZ and 2 Gig memory. I installed the cat.6.6 and saw a little difference, but still not the same as before. Oh well what to do. Thanks for the replies guys. I might try to cool down the temp of card too and see what happens, I notice fps gets worse as I play, but stops at certain point and levels out.

When was the last time you ran the demo? Remeber that updates released by Valve have added HDR lighting functionality. I don't see any HDR lighting in the demo, but there is no telling how the inclusion of that, which seems to be turned on by default if your card can support it, would affect the demo.

I did the stress test last night, i'm starting to get 114 fps or so now, after installing Cat. 6.6

I put 1.4v on my x1900 and never had problems when i put the clocks to 710 and memory at 810

A fragmented hard drive could be the culprit if we lived in some sort of Superman-like bizarro world, where down is up, hello is goodbye and so on and so forth.

Firefox could be a culprit if it were a running process while gaming, and if it were engineered by the same folks who brought us Steam. My bet is that this isn't the case.

I've noticed that the Source engine is having a real tough time with any drivers I've tried recently. I'm not sure of the cause, but it might actually be Steam related. At times, its usage will max out one of my two logical procs for no reason whatsoever. It's possible one of the last Steam updates has gone horribly wrong, but there's no buzz at the steampowered forums. For me, this is really just some slight hitching and studdering, but I'm pretty sure a stress test or extended gameplay periods would show a fairly large drop in performance.

When using ATi Tool, you have to set 3D voltage manually. Proper voltage for an XTX is 1.45 volts, but setting VGPU to 1.25 or 1.35 will yield about 1.45 volts effective.
