OK, so I havn't worked on Skynet or my other projects for over a week now, I might as well show yall why. Anyways, I've been building a Folding Room (will double as a reloading room when I get my bench in there). It's pretty rough, but please remember this house is a fix me up, I paid more for my truck then my house lol. I've been fixing up this place for months, and I'm only just now finishing up the main floor. Anyways, instead of posting a shit load of pics Id put up a simple movie tour of sorts. I'll post more pics and details about the room later.

As for now, anyone got anything against buying some cheap 4U cases off ebay? And tell me if you have any thoughts on the room, anything I can do to make it better?

cheapest I can find them online are for almost 100 from newegg, I can get slighlty larger ones off ebay for about 60 shipped, maybe less if I get a few together

man i wish i was that organized.. i just have crap thrown around my closet shelves and stacked in boxes in my garage..
 
Yea, my crap was all over the house, taking up the office, huge pile by the tv in the living room (only other monitor at the time) and what not, this way I can keep it all in one spot. Should also help with build times and what not, keeping everything centralized. Once I get some cases I can start putting stuff in the rack, then it will be real neat. Ambient temp in there is 53* with no computers running, should help keep it cool.

Thanks for the feed back, once I get my second monitor and the wall mounts I'll mount some network ports and my killawatt, then the test bench should be done. Next up is a station under the wiring panel for the rack/laptop

If y'all have any ideas, keep em coming!

And what about the huge A/C system to keep things cool? :D
 
Well, SMP should put out less heat and draw less power (vs boxen full of GX2s) But, if I need I could tap into central air, it would be the first duct, there's one already there but I closed it. I'm hoping it stays cool enough down there tho to no need it. But, if needed, there is a window in the room, I could always put an AC in it

Well, I had to turn off the radiator on my room and open the small duct above the window to let in fresh (0C) air from outside to keep things from becoming uncomfortably warm. I have no idea what the insulation of that room is like, though. Dutch homes like the one I live in are generally very well insulated :)
 
Should stay cold, if I need I can throw up some r19 and get the tax credit LOL

shouldnt have a problem at all with temps.. should keep it a nice 70-80F in there.. heck if ya really need to you could always put a vent in the wall you built between the rest of the basement and the room with a low rpm fan in it to pull cool air from outside the room inside the room..
 
I was thinking of getting 2 REALLY large fans (like 200mm or sumtin) and puting an exaust at the top and inlet at the bottom beside the rack

it takes 24-48 for light foot traffic, 72 to drive a car on it, its fine now, but it was sticky there for a few days (probly took a while to dry due to temps and not much air moving

I can imagine they want you to air the place constantly while it dries. I hope you didn't breathe in too many toxic fumes :p

The real questio then becomes, did you wear a mask to kill some of that smell?

A couple of hours of that stuff and i still cant get use to the smell.
 
It's not that bad actually. Now the prep stuff (bondLok, it etches the concrete) that was bad, but we had enough fans moving to keep Down there. Theactual epoxy didn't even have one that I recall.

Plus, if I remember right from my NBC training, the masks you could get at stores are based ofsimple versions of our pro masks, and those won't filter industrial agents like that fume
Or maybe I'm just remembering wrong LOL, would want to freak out the neighbors coming up for a break and going outside in that thing, they already see me carrying enough that I get raised eyebrows

Ive got the trench coat from my uniform, could fit the AR15 under there, strap the glock to my leg, wear the mask and Ive got 2 grenades rigged with artillery simulators still...

I assume you mean me, and yes I did. They aren't bad at all. They are almost exactly they same size as a standard mid-tower case. This means that they are limited in the amount of room they have, but it also means they can hang just from the front without an issue. I ran into a few space issues with a vertical mount 92mm heatpipe cooler that forced me to remove one of the 80mm exhaust fans and the expansion card holder.The other 80mm exhaust fan clears my 8800 GTS by about 1/16", which is very tight. I would advise getting a couple of 60mm exhaust fans for each case and scrap the 80mm lid-mount fans completely. The 3 1/2 and 5/14 drive mount systems are great. They are both on a shock-proof mount and they both come out with 4 easily accessible screws. You will run into interference issues if you have a bunch of large video card and a bunch of HDDs. A couple video cards and a couple HDDs will fit fine, though.

Pros:
- Small size - no need for back support, standard cables/PS cords will reach everything
- Well built - shock-mount drive mounts, solid steel construction
- Tons of room for drives (6 - 3 1/2 bays, 3 - 5 1/4 bays)
- Front USB port
- Not insanely loud (the one I have together is sitting by a server with 2 60mm Deltas, so it may be louder than I think)
- Packaging is great, shipping will be no problem
- Key less accesses to switches/USB ports/5 1/4 drives - very nice touch

Cons:
- Lid-mount exhaust fans - these are a pain on their best day, 92mm vertical heatpipe CPU coolers will interfere with one of them
- Large video cards intrude on the 3 1/2 drves, not a problem unless you plan on having a bunch of HDDs and a bunch of video cards
- The expansion card holder will interfere with a 92mm vertical heatpipe CPU cooler, so you probably won't be able to use it unless you have a low-profile cooler
- Shipping - I think I got a $1 discount buying three, unless you buy a pallet of these things, you are not going to save much of anything on shipping. They are big and heavy, so Fed Ex/UPS shipping is going to be fairly constant.

Like all 4U cases, you are not going to get anything with a 120mm fan sitting vertically to fit, so unless Thermalright makes a 92mm version, a True is not going to fit. I have this one that does fit other than the exhaust fan and card holder interference: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103064. It isn't a socket 1366 cooler, so it won't work for you. That style with a 92mm fan will work. I haven't checked reviews for the best one with that limitation, though. I'm sure there are others with more experience with this that can weigh in. I am actually curious myself, as I am putting together c couple of I7 rigs myself and will have the same issue.
