So I just presented my high school Senior Project today (got a 99%), and for that I built my first web site. I'm probably going to be tearing it down in a few weeks for a movie review site that I want to create, but can you guys give me any constructive criticism on it?

And don't mind the horrible Homecoming picture I was forced to put up.

Not Bad...I like the colors and neatness of the website. I have no regrets, so I say keep up the good work! :)

pretty darned good for a first site. my only suggestion would be to use either a hover or underline effect on your link text for usability.

other than that, great job.

I like the green. :)

I noticed that you use br's a lot to create space when you could use the CSS property 'margin' instead. For example, on this page: http://www.restrikted.com/RIAA.html you put a br before and after each hr. Instead, you could have on CSS rule to do the same thing:

hr { margin-top:10px; margin-bottom:10px; }
or if you want short hand
hr ( margin:10px 0 10px 0; }

You forgot add to alt text for the header image.

I like the usage of image replacement for your navigation. However, you don't provide plain text in the links, so if someone has images disabled or their browser doesn't support them (or they're blind!) they won't be able to use them. (unless screen readers use the alt text on links, I'm not sure). BTW, you misspelled alt (atl) on your Net Neutrality link.

I would suggest using unordered lists (ul) for your navigation so that is more accessible when someone's browser doesn't support CSS or they are using a screen reader.

Here's a good tutorial for using lists as navigation: http://css.maxdesign.com.au/listamatic/

Example:
<ul>
<li><a href="Link1.html">Link 1></a><li>
</ul>

On this page: http://www.restrikted.com/Links.html an unordered list would be nice for your list of links.

Good job on your first site! I hope I haven't confused you too much. :D If you have any questions just ask!

Thanks for the advice GotGoose, and no, you didn't confuse me. Right now I'm thinking about my next site, do you guys know of any good free font sites where I could download like one big file filled with free fonts? I just want to have a good library for my future projects.

I put it through the validator. I got 5 errors, all related to not specifying alts for my images.

And your picture is HUGE on the right column. 500K is pretty big and the actual size is over 700 pixels wide and tall. I personally don't like to use width and height info in my image tags. I just have the full image resolution just come out. That way you have less code to worry about.

I didn't notice that, good catch. Find image compression software. I don't use this software: Irfanview, but others say it's great and it might compress jpgs. Anyone know of a good and free compression utility?
