Just finished up putting together my first SFF machine. Picked up all the components except the case a week ago and was running them in a temp case until the MicroFly arrived today.

Attempted to cleanly route the cables and tidy it up as much as reasonably possible. I used the bottom 5.25 bay to hide excess PSU cables.

nice build.. I'm working on my first SFF setup as we speak.. It "used to be" a Dell L800R.. LOL. If I was going to just buy (and not mod at all) a case, it would be the case you have. Instead, I chose to heavily mod the Dell case..

nice cable management. modular power supply are even better with SFF.
 
Good job. I am currently assembling my Ultra MX-6 (albeit slowly) with an ASUS P5E-VM HDMI and Corsair HX-620. I am still researching a good air cooler for the case.

Slight revision to it. I decided to yank the Cooler Master 500 PSU out of it. Damn thing is just way too fucking loud. It was loud enough in a case that sat on the floor. Once I put it in the MicroFly and up on my desk....fucking forget it.

So, in went a cheapo 350 watt I had laying around. Returning the Cooler Master to Micro Center and gonna get something else. Would like a modular unit.


Was looking at the RAIDMAX Hybrid 2 RX-530SS.
 
The psu was louder than your 8600? I know
my 8600 is the loudest thing in my system.

I would honestly say they sounded about the same. It sucked. Was starting to give me a headache.


The fan in the PSU moved a huge amount of air, no doubt. Just wasn't worth the extra noise. Especially with the pc sitting on my desk.

I want to replace the heatsink and fan on the 8600GT with something passive. That would be ace.
 
I wanna go passive too, just not my top priority atm :(.

Couple updates with some new pics.


Dumped the CoolerMaster psu. Was just too damn loud. Replaced it with a Raidmax Hybrid 2 RX-530SS. This PSU is all but completely silent. If it wasn't for the blue glow from its fan, you almost wouldn't know it was on. Replaced the stock Ultra 120MM case fan in the back with a slightly quieter CoolerMaster blue led fan.

Also, the stock cooler on the XFX 8600 GT was also far too annoying. Sounded nearly like a leaf blower. Replaced it with a Zalman VF700-CU all copper unit. Came with a little 12v/5v adapter. You can have high performance or silent cooling.

Here is some numbers on the GPU temp in case anyone is interested.

Stock XFX cooler

idle 51c

load 75c

Zalman @ 12v

idle 46c

load 62c

Zalman @ 5v

idle 48c

load 70c


At 12 volts, the Zalman cooler is noticably quieter than the stock one. At 5 volts its all but totally silent. I am currently running it at 5 volts and loving it. I would say the loudest thing in my MicroFly now is the stock Intel cooler. Thats next on my list to be upgraded.
