Hi. I've been lurking here for a while but I thought it's about time I stepped up.

Well basically I'm building an HTPC gaming rig. I have most of the parts ordered already but there are some things which I can't decide on yet and was hoping you would help me with this.

Here's the list of parts:

Silverstone GD06 (bought)
ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z (bought)
i5 2500K
Corsair AXP-140
Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB
Sapphire 6970 original reference (have)
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB (have)
Samsung Spinpoint F4 2TB (have)
ASUS Xonar Essence STX (have)
Nexus NX-6000 (bought)

My doubts atm are:
1) Does the AXP-140 fit on the Maximus IV Gene-Z with the surrounding heatsinks and all?
2) Should I replace the stock AXP-140 fan with a TY-140?
3) Is the AXP-140 better than the NH-C12P SE14?
4) I have read that it's difficult to put on the top cover with the GPU power leads connected. Is this true? If so would this help as the wires are a bit thinner?

If anyone has any feedback please let me know!
I promise pics and a build log in a few weeks.

2) Should I replace the stock AXP-140 fan with a TY-140?
ABSOLUTELY YES!!
The stock fan is loud and low efficient.

3) Is the AXP-140 better than the NH-C12P SE14?

mmm... I don't know...

You are right, this can be a problem... The Athena cables could help, or you can rewire it yourself.
Or you could try to add two of this

Curious to see what will come out, though.
Good luck!;)

Hey thanks a lot for that. The pics really help. If you don't mind me asking which case is that motherboard tray from?

I decided on this fan for the AXP-140. I couldn't find anything better.

Will keep you posted on more developments.

You and me both, lol.
My pleasure, glad to share.:)
The case is the highly criticized Thermaltake Armor A30.
Here the thread of my build, still work in progress...
I got my solutions for the cooling and I'm going to update them soon on the thread.

About the fan for the AXP, I went with a Scythe Slip Stream 140x25mm Fan PWM Adjustable VR, code SM1425SL12HPVC-V

You just have to try it to see if it will close. My former HTPC was in an Antec NSK2480 and it definitely had issues closing. The Silverstone Grandia GD06 looks as if it has a couple mm more room than my Antec case did, so depending on your graphics card you may or may not have a problem.

I "solved" my problem by using a dual peripheral (AKA Molex™) to PCIe adapter (PSU was single rail so no problem) and then modding the PCIe plug. I basically used some diagonal cutters to chew away at the top of the plug until it was flush with the metal pins, then fanned out the wires. It was just enough for me to be able to close the lid. I used the adapter because I didn't want to mod the original PCIe plug on the PSU.

LMK if you can't picture this in your mind. I think I still have the modded adapter sitting around somewhere and can take a pic of it.

Yeah I have something along those lines planned myself. Thanks for the input!

Slow free Amazon shipping is slow.

I did this too so I could fit the pcie power plugs in my Apex MI-008, had to actually bend the metal portions 90 degrees as well and then used epoxy to hold all of the pins in the correct orientation. Still rubs, but the lid closes :)
