My first "real" OC...

When I've done processor OCing in the past, it's always been a test. However, now that I have 2GB RAM and have run into the NewCastle memory controller limitation, I have discovered that OCing is now quite within reach! In order to keep speeds @ stock, I set the following:
Proc Multiplier - 9x
HTT - 245MHz
HT Link - 4x
CAS - 3.0
TRAS - 8.0 (RAM was mistiming this, doesn't help that one pair's SPD is 2.5-3-3-8 and the other pair is 3-3-3-8, says so in CPU-Z)
vCore - 1.475 (was undervolting @ 1.450 before)
This put the proc at 2.2GHz and RAM at DDR400
Now for the excitement!
HTT - 253MHz
HT Link - 4x
CAS - 3.0
TRAS - 8.0
vCore - 1.5
Processor is now at 2.4GHz and RAM still at DDR400 (my RAM won't OC for shit)
Idle is 34C according to AsusProbe (no F@H just yet, sorry! Testing first...)
Running Doom3 Timedemo and AquaMark3, then I"ll post load temp.
Load temp doesn't really bother me, it's got an XP90 on it and within 30 seconds of running Doom3 three times it was back down to 35C.

What did you overclock from? IMO 2.2Ghz-2.4Ghz isn't a very big leap, have you tried to push further, use memory dividers, lower voltage, higher clocks? (Basicly have you found your chips limit with a safe voltage, no more then .1 volts over stock recomended).

The memory divider is forced to DDR333 due to the limitations of the NewCastle memory controller. Stock volts is 1.5vCore, so it is running faster than stock on stock volts. I also can mess with the multiplier, it's at 9.5x (max of 11.0x) but then I'd need to up the FSB/HTT....will do that later. However, Prime95 errs on the existing OC, should I be concerned? Played Doom3 for a hour, however, with no issues.

Proc survived the following w/o error:
- three runs (in a row) of CS:S Stress
- two runs (in a row) of Doom3
- one 3DMark05 (score 3739)
Temp dropped back to 38C (no F@H for testing purposes)
Would you OCing gods call this stable?

I would be concerned if it was giving me prime errors, and I guess you are on a XP proc? If so then thats a good overclock cause those ones don't overclock well, my advice is to back it off to where you can prime for at least 10 minites, then if that works try it for 1hour, if it works for 1hour I call it stable enough although I reprime every couple of days or so for a little while to just to make sure its still stable.

Actually it's an A64. Tried moving multi from 9.5x to 10x but it hung. Volted all the way up to 1.6v, no go. Max is 2.4GHz I guess...

Meh, its just a newcastle which I'm guessing is SKT 754? If so then thats still not a terrible clockspeed, if your getting prime errors though I would back off my overclock.

(Like I can get 2.85Ghz@1.5volts and it appears to be stable, but one core fails on me within seconds of priming, the other however seems to be fine but I don't want to risk system instability so I just run it lower, right now I'm running at 2.6Ghz@1.3Volts cause it runs cooler and I don't notice any performance difference anyways. (unless using synthetic benchmarks)

No, this is the weird Socket 939, verified HERE, but RAM quantity is wrong (I have 2GB now). Socket 939 3400+ that I got from TigerDirect in the much-maligned bundle offered about a year and a half ago. Included the proc, A8V Deluxe, CPU fan and Soyo case w/handle.

ah its was made using the .13 process thats why it doesn't overclock well.

Then I'll consider myself lucky with the 2.4GHz even though Prime takes a crap...my games/3D apps/office don't care so if Prime is the ONLY thing throwing a fit I'm not gonna worry. XP90 coolers ROCK! Keeps me under 50C even with the overclock and 1.525vCore (stock is 1.5vCore)!
