I decided to have a go at overclocking my 4870 X2.
I normally run a pair of them, so took one out so as not to complicate matters.
First I set the fan at 65% for a bit of extra cooling.
Then hit the 'Auto Tune' button, dragged the software to my other screen and sat back with a coffee to watch the numbers change and see what happened.

The first chip was reported at 48-49C and got:
Core - 790Mhz
Memory - 990Mhz

The second chip reported at 68-70C
Core - 790Mhz
Memory - 960Mhz

Temps at 65% fan have now settled back down to 40 & 50C

Just wondering if I should lower the first chip to 960Mhz to match the other ?

Anyone else ever OC their 4870 X2 and what did they achieve, either through the AMD software or DIY ?

I will have to play some games to see if it remains stable..............but if it explodes, then I still have until November this year to RMA it.......or would that be pushing my luck ?
I am quite pleased with myself, but the tests do take a lot of time.......but hey, I am retired now so I have plenty of spare time.......
Do I get a pat on the back, or loads of scorn..........:D
