Ok, the window is the $5 window mod from here. It actually cost me $17 because I didnt have masking tape and cut-off disks for my dremil. The VFD I got in the mail today and am using VFD Thinger. All this was done today in the span of about 2 hours of work and 3 hours of driving around looking for stuff.

This is my first mod and it will not be the last. Next is to paint the case...

truly l337..... keep it up :D

and it seems like rust-oleum metallic is good for painting cases.

Thanks guys, the painting wont happen for a while but I cant wait. I'm probably going to go with a metalic dark blue with bright yellow accents.

major props for the first real mod i have seen here in a while. heck it is one of the first threads in a while that isnt flaming that diabolic or super alien case . hehe

good work with the mod, got any more pics?

Ahh, the bg micro VFDs. they were truely awesome when they were $20. I should hook mine back up...

Heh, I had a CrystalFontz display 2 years ago on "Cold Fusion". Thing was freaking $90 but fun to play with. After awhile it got kinda boring and I really wanted blue.

Not bad man, keep it up, we all gotta start somewhere!

Hey thanks ya'll. Sweet lookin case ya got there. When it warms up outside (its 15 degrees here today) I'll do the paint job.

I havent been able to figure out why my VFD Thinger software isnt getting my CPU temp and voltages. Its got a section for it. That and my current weather information. It has a box for my zipcode but nothing ever shows up. Do I need additional software to get the statistics from my mobo monitoring to the VFD thinger software? Dunno if I should start another thread about this. I looked in the LCD faq and also on VFD Thinger's website, both have no information about using this program or it's features (including the Thinger's website interrestingly enough).

props for someone that actually did it themselves instead of buying it and calling themselves a modder :D Always nice to see someone catch the bug.

Since the gurus are reading this. I'm half-way putting one of those rubber-mold windows in my case. I've been finding it impossible to get the window in there and I can't get the locking strip into the back of the grommit to keep it in place. Is there a trick to get it work?

Any help would be appreciated...

Well, in the UK, we call it washing-up liquid - over the pond, I think you guys call it dishwashing detergent or something like that.
Makes rubber nice and slippery - I learnt of it as a tyre fitter.

Hope it helps. :)

Shinare - nice one, now the bug's bitten, you'll not look back.

Looks pretty good for your first mod. may I suggest that before you decide to paint your case, that you cut out those very restrictive "fan grills" on the side panel. Cutting them out will improve your air flow a lot.

Yah, I think they look very nice, but your right, they do restrict air flow. I will probably get them cut out while I am working on it.

Thanks!

Nice job; I just cut a window in my case and I can say I'm glad the jigsaw was steady because I wasn't - so scared. I'm working toward painting my case when it warms up but the rate I'm going you'll have 2 done to my one.

Also I cleverly somehow cocked the screwholes to the blowhole I cut JUST a tad (god knows how) and now the fan is a teeny bit off.

Oh well, guess it would help to have good eyesight or skillz; good job there.

I was very bored today and the temps outside were quite nice so I thought I would take care of that paint job today. Heres the finished product. Please forgive the lack of progress pics as I knew you all know how to paint so I just did it and took this picture.

Please forgive the little white smudge up at the top of the side panel. This was my first time ever painting something other than a wall and did not know you had to be extra super carefull when pulling off the masking tape. I pulled a little too fast there and a chunk came off. I'll touch that up later I guess. This was totally done with 4 coats of vinal dye and 3 coats of clearcoat.

This mods finished!!! :)

very nice paint job. i wouldnt have chosen those colors, but its still cool. i would cut off the fan grills and buy some cool lookin LED lights.

Well, my camera doesnt do such a good job, the colors are red and blue, and I like red and blue. :) Its actually a really shiny nice looking case now. (reminds me of superman!) You can see the clear fan in the back is actually a blue LED fan that gives a nive effect in the dark, but of course my 5 year old crappy 1 megapixle digital camera has no way to convey that. :( I need a new 5 Megapixle!!!

Decent paintjob, but I dont see whats so special about the window... =p. Nice installation and such... *shrug*.

Special is I did it myself and didnt buy a premodded case and slap an LED fan on it and say "WOW!! Look at my l337 m0dd3d Caze!!" Paint job was also done BY ME and not by alienware or some other overpriced bullshit.

I think its special anyway, and its my first try. :) And what I think is all that matters. *grin*

Ive done my own original mods, all my own and am in perperation to paint it right now. Im not gonna go into it, but I didnt use any kits or just plug stuff in and install software.
