Ok, I decided to dabble in making my own external HD setup... got that nice cheap Seagate 320GB Sata and the Rosewill external USB 2.0 / eSata enclosure that just arrived on NewEgg.

I have hooked it up and my comp detected it and sait it installed it... now, why doesnt it show up in My Computer?

the HD was not formatted so that could be the hitch, if so, how do I format it through the USB or do I need to take it out, attach it internaly, format it, then take it out and put it back into the enclosure?

the Safely Remove Hardware tab in windows pops up when I plug it into the USB and it detects the model of the hard-drive and that its a USB Mass Storage device perfectly, so I'm thinking its not showing up because HD is not formatted...

so, how do I format through USB... help !

format.. the.. hdd..

a non formated. non partitioned hdd wont show up simply in my computer with the swing of a magic wand..

i honestly dont think uc an format from usb.. well maybe

try under device manager

or unplug it. put it on an ide channel. format it then put it back in the case.
^ will also be 5x faster to format then over usb

Check to see if it shows up in the Disk Management console. You can partition and format it from there too.

thank you, I got to the disk management console in the administrator tools and its working perfectly... this partition is going to take a loooong time... but oh-well... least it doesnt slow me down none!
