Well my gear is sitting in a Raidmax Cobra 822 case and I wanted to put some intake fans up on the front panel, but the original design has barely any room for airflow, as seen here:

So I got down to business and removed the front panel, working to remove the plastic blocking the airflow, and the end result looks something like this:

I placed some mesh on the inside of the cover panel and now I'm beginning to remove the swiss cheese holes that are built into the frame's fan mounts because they're of no use anymore, you might be able to see what I started on the top right fan.

Looks pretty good. The edges are a little rough but you can't really tell unless your up close.

Good job, I think it looks great, particularly for your first mod:)

Keep it up!

looks good, you could add a black rubber gourment to cover up those rough edges.

I agree, add the black rubber around, it'll help make it more clean, i did that with the top of my case for the 80mm exhaust fan i put in there, still waiting on darned ups for 2 new fans and a vantec light and sound controller plus 2 lights

I went out today and got two lights to put behind the grill and it looks much better, I'll try getting some pics when I get the time.

I'm still working on removing the fan grills from the frame, it will end up looking like a pie chart basically with light shining through.

Tomorrow I'll try and find some black rubber lining for the edges, is there anything in particular I should be looking for?

I did a little more work on it. Cleaned up the edge from where I cut the hole, managed to take out some of the grill in the frame to loosen up the airflow and put in some cathode lights on switches for easy alteration:

Just trying out putting a 90mm fan emblem in the opening:

for your first mod "not bad my friend"

you just have to work on the wires a little more and you will
have yourself a very nice looking rig. keep it up and I hope
to see more of your work later on =]

How do you do that, I only have one led for my hd and it's on when busy but off when idling!?!?!

Boths LEDs just sit behind some clear plastic which are the eyes.

The blue is my Power LED and the red is my HDD LED. The blue is always shining and the red only turns on when there is HD activity. I didn't make it, it comes built into my case, but it looks great and I wish more cases had this style.

ohh the power led is the blue one..... and i thought you had some magic color switching led.... i feel stupid now.... really stupid

There are magic switching leds, actually... basically two leds in one package, with opposite polarity, so voltage in one direction causes one color, opposite direction causes the other. But yeah, not really the point. Nice work, btw... First mods are always enjoyable.

I remember my dual celeron 366@550 BP6 server with a gutted CD rom drive as a 4hd in 3 5.25" slots adapter, and mount for a 120mm fan. Haven't really done much modding lately... still waiting to move into a place that actually has some workshop space.

The front of the case looks amazing, great job. I like the coordination of the colors... what case is that?

It's a Raidmax Cobra 822 (info)

From what I can tell though, it's a discontinued case model, but I've seen one or two on ebay for less than $100.
