I was putting togethor someones computer earlier today, when all is well, everything seemingly ok.

But after making sure it booted and everything was working, everything was shutdown and unplugged to hook up the fans etc. Then, when powering on, immediatly there was smoke everywhere and glowing wires turned into fire and melting plastic in an instant. Shocked we cut the power as quick as possible.

Everything was fine except for this one fan, whos entire wire and molex was melted with bare wire. It was one of those pass thru molexes as to not take up a whole one.

It was pretty hilarious. Everything works fine, there's just something funny about that fan.

The wires instantly glowed red and melted the plastic covering, and setting fire.
The molexes were plugged in the right way, I know they are foolproof, but even some people manage to jam them in backwards sometimes, but I did not. I didnt really pay much attention to the wiring on the molexes from the fan, but maby could they have been wired wrong to cause this? Or just an fucked up fan?

I forget what manufacturer it was. Maby coolermaster or vantec. We just laughed and said we should send it back to china (no offense intended).

It was fun. I'd like to hear some cool case-fire stories!
 
feel lucky that the one damn fan did not take anything with it, like your motherboard, cpu or ram ;)

Spontaneously combusting mouse cable.

seriously...

previously in the day I was using this mouse at work, fired up a bit of dm action too then went to other room to do some work.

Smelled something really odd, came back to that room to find mouse cable melting onto the monitor cable and charred and on fire. Immediately unplugged and all was well.

Motherboard's PS/2 slot fried because of the short.

I wish I had my camera at the time...
 
Awhile ago I replaced my mobo from an MSI to a Gigabyte. So after I reinstalled everything I proceeded to put in a vantec spectrum fancard, booted up the computer...

Great everything boots just fine......oh shit! Whats that? My computers smoking, wtf???

I looked inside and the friggin fancard was on fire, sparking and smoking all at once. I promptly turned it off and yanked it out, the wires were black, the card was black and vantec got a call in the quickness from me about it. Of course they replaced it no questions asked, but to this day I'm scared to put the new one in there.

Thankfully it didn't fry anything else in the computer. The thing was sitting one slot below my geforce 6800.... :(
 
I had the batteries explode in my cordless mouse once. Whats that smell? Battery acid...yummy!

But not as cool as a case fire :eek:
