im thinking of builting my first computer. something that is a good price and yet can still play most the top games (setting dont have to be maxed). These are some of the parts iv fond, can you all tell me if this is going to work for the price.

It can be better man. Some of the parts you are getting like the 650i chipset mobo and E6300 CPU is old. Get a P35 chipset mobo paired with a E2XXX cpu and O/C this cpu. Then, bump up your RAM to 4 gigs (2x2gig) modules. 250gig is pretty small also, get a 320gig at least.
 
For $85 (AR) more I put this together which should be pretty beastly - 3.0 Ghz of 45nm goodness, 4GB ram, 500 GB HDD. You can easily shave off some by going with a different CPU smaller HDD or shopping around, but this would definitely last you quite some time - I don't know that the same could be said for a e6300 although I do love mine.

looks like my first build.

the E6300 is old but still good as poster above said you could get a little bester but still a good build.

On the P5n-e either buy an new NB cooler or take off the original and reapply becuase the stock sink is mounted with cheap paste and can over heat easy. The remount change my temps from 42 to 33 at idle so it's a significant difference.

Side note I have 2 of these boards and have had little issues and they perform great....for the price.

What is your max budget on this PC build? vsboxerboy put together a pretty solid build which although costs more than your OP at $700 something, it offer more though. Also, do you plan to overclock? I would opt to go with an 8800GTS video card already as oppose to that EVGA 8800GT card.

Yikes! Please don't get that 8800GTS 320MB card. That card is old compared to the 8800GT 512mb. The 8800GT is faster than that video card. What size monitor are you gaming at? 19"? 22?"

Since I know your budget now, here is what I would do for $700 range.

Case - Antec NSK3480 with 380 Antec Earthwatts PS for $75
CPU - Intel Core 2 E2180 Allendale CPU at 2.0ghz for $70
Mobo - Gigabye GA-P35DS3L for $90
RAM - G. Skill DDR2 800 2x2gig for $77
Video - MSI NX8800GTS 512MB for $225 ($30 MIR)
HDD - Seagate 320gig SATA 300 for $75
Optical - SAMSUNG Black 20X drive for $27
O/S - Windows Home Basic 64 for $90

Total - $729 before rebates and w/o shipping
$699 after rebates and w/o shipping

Note: cpu is slower than the E8400 cpu but, you can later O/C the cpu anyways. Or, you can pop in a Q9XXX quad core cpu later on when the price gets cheaper. The MSI NX8800GTS 512MB will give you much better performance over that EVGA 8800GTS 320MB. I listed the G. Skill RAM for $77 if you don't want to bother with rebates on the Patriots RAM.

just saw your post about a monitor. Keep in mind that the larger the monitor(the more pixels) and the more detailed resolution you run the tough it is for your gpu to give you good frame rates. I use a 19" ws and enjoy awsome frames in every game I play.

Ho crap, that build looks good dude. Goodness. All you need is a decent monitor now. How much are you willing to spend on an LCD now? That 19" LCD that hossdaddy listed is pretty good for $170 or...if you wanna go bigger, get this Acer AL2216Wbd 22" for $220. I feel go for a bigger LCD because it's not often you upgrade a monitor as much as a PC upgrade. I did this before and was not satisfied. I went from 20", 21" then 22" and then 24" and now a 28".

BTW, maybe you can just buy a real cheap CRT monitor just to get you by until you can get a more decent LCD later on.
 
I still would go for 4 gigs (2x2gig) RAM though over 2 x 1gig. Its pretty cheap that it's worth it. This way you don't worry about a memory upgrade later especially with a 64bit O/S. Plus, 2 sticks of 2 gig is better than having 4 sticks of 1 gig modules.
 
If you are gaming, surfing, ripping movies music etc you will be more than fine with 2 gigs, you have 4 ram slots and can easily upgrade later. As for that cpu yes it is highly overclockable but it only has a 1 mb cache which might hurt you in gaming. I would reccomend the e4xxx series like this instead,

The NSK3480 won't cut it, as it's designed to support microATX motherboards. If you want something similar, there's the NSK4480 or the Sonata III.

And the amount of L2 cache in a processor isn't a deal-breaker, especially if you're considering overclocking.

oops, yeah i changed the OS in my wish list to the SP1

and the ram i found was only $38 for 2gigs and the one you linked was $48 and after reading reviews from people the ram i found seems to be better for the price.
 
I recommend that you reconsider your case/PSU selection. Namely, I don't trust that power supply.

If you want a relatively inexpensive case/PSU combo, choose one of the Antec combos that I've listed earlier. Each case has one of the reliable EarthWatts model PSUs.

If you plan on overclocking the E2180, get a better HSF like the AC Freezer 7 Pro or the XIGMATEK HDT-S963.
