So it all comes down to two tvs now which seem to be the best but which one? Sony XBR43X800D or Samsung UN43KU6300? Only con I have with Samsung is only 3 hdmi ports but still might consider buying not sure.

The Samsung is direct LED backlit. There's an advantage over the Sony edge lit.

i recently owned the 40" KU6300 before returning it for a non-TV-monitor.

- 40-43" is a good size (personally) for desktop viewing. i went up to a 49" afterwards and found it too big. now im at 30" and it borders small.
- input lag in Game mode is acceptable. i speak as someone coming from an ROG swift.
- i experienced judder at 4k60P (connected through DP) in both PC and Game modes. the KS8000 juddered as well, but less. don't know if the difference falls squarely on the limitations of TV tech at 4K (i.e. different motion processors).
- in non-technical terms, image quality is great. blacks are plenty black and there is an abundance of brightness that can be turned down.
- the UI was sluggish at times, with pausing between commands

despite its shortcomings, i don't think you'd be disappointed in the Samsung for productivity and cinema.

rtings just reviewed the 800d. Compared favorably to the 6300.

I have the exact tv you mention. I got a un43ku6300 for $550 at Frys. I'm very very happy with it. For gaming it's great, input lag is not noticeable at all. Only complaint I have is that it doesn't recognize my computer on a cold boot and I have to unplug or replug the cable or I have to turn of UHD color and turn it back on. Not really a deal breaker given the price.

MaZa you recommended me the UN43KU6300. I appreciate you trying to help however that tv has very poor motion handling according to rtings. So I'm staying away from the ku6300. Again according to rtings the XBR43X800D has very poor judder 24p playback. On amazon people are complaining how poor the black levels are on the XBR43X800D. The Vizio M43 C1 seems to be best tv overall even though it does not support 4:4:4 chroma 60hz and has no hdr. The vizio m43 c1 did get higher review ratings overall than sony and samsung tvs on rtings so that tells me the vizio is best tv. Who disagrees with me?

passion4tech - I'm not agreeing or disagreeing but I'd consider checking if TV is flicker free.

IIRC according to rtings, Sony TVs and some expensive LG OLED TV's are the only ones that don't use PWN for brightness adjustment, at least in 2015. So if you have earlier noticed that flickering screen might be a problem for you, then this is one thing to check.

I wouldn't care too much about judder here or there, after all it depends on what you do, if you sit in front of monitor staring at desktop, webpages and various software for hours each day, then consider flicker on low brightness as possible factor that might be more important than some occasional judder in some movie scenes or such. Then again, if you are just consuming video like content then consider black levels and things you mentioned over other factors.

Or if you play games with dark scenes, then consider if VA panel is for you, as the corners might look darker when you have short distance to your screen.
For example IIRC 2016 Sony model you mentioned had VA panel and last year's model had IPS.

BTW I did go to local shop (I live in Europe) and checked the Sony KD-43XD8305 (2016 model) image quality, it's possible to notice slight darkening in the corners, but image quality was very good in brightly lit space... naturally can't say how the image looks like in more typical home environment.

It's a budget thing at this moment passion4tech... The Sony X800D costs more than the KU6300 and reviews indicate that X800D is better overall. It's a simple choice then. If you can afford the better one then get it, if you're on a budget then go for the KU6300 as it's a good value for the money.

It makes total sense that Samsung's $800-$1500 offerings have better motion handling than their $500 offerings.

In the end if you're watching more high motion stuff or playing games, etc. go for the Sony TV with better motion handling. If you don't care and just need something with a decent picture and want to save some money go for the Samsung.

Ok I ended up buying Sony XBR43X800D. A Way better tv. As a matter fact 20 times better tv than crappy philips 40pfl4706 tv I had for almost 5 years. Finally got rid of it threw in trash, well someone took it for free. It's not worth anything a garbage tv. I'm very satisfied with Sony XBR43X800D. From my experience best quality tv brands are Sony, Samsung, LG, Vizio, and Panasonic. Worst tv brands. avoid them at all costs, Philips, Sceptre, Hisense, Insignia, Coby, and Dynex. Let me know if I did not mention other worse tv brands.

Coby... Lmao. Ghetto brand is ghetto.

Hisense bought Sharp not too long ago. Sharp pioneered IGZO display tech which will be more and more important for making 8K displays and thinner LCD tech. (Thus requiring less backlighting, which means energy savings.) I expect Hisense to eventually become one of the major players in the future.

Hinese Hisense whatever garbage brand. I'm surprised they bought sharp. Sharp was one of my top brands in past now Hisense ruined sharp brand :(

I have a cheap Sceptre TV in my bedroom and my mom has the same one in her house, both have been running 6 years strong. I probably wouldn't recommend them as a primary display in the living room or as a computer monitor but so far I'm pretty satisfied with the price I paid and reliability.

I am in the same boat as a lot of you, really trying to narrow down the right UHD TV to use as a monitor but in my case it's 75% creative work (photography, video editing, graphic design, illustration, etc.) and 25% general use, entertainment... I don't really play games much but I'm sure after I order a GTX 1070 and a screen that's 40-49 inches that might change. I'm more focused on being able to accurately edit professional photography and have a lot of space, beautiful picture and a lot of fun on it when I'm not being productive. I've been scouring rtings.com just like everyone else and it frustrates me that there are a number with good "PC Use" ratings but they all have shortcomings in plenty of areas.

I'd get a 32" monitor but that's just not going to wow me like I want considering I've been using a 30" IPS since 2007 it sure won't feel like a step up (in size) however I know resolution and picture quality would probably make my jaw drop by comparison to my Dell.

I was hoping to clock in under $1000 too, the Samsung KS8000 49" seems like a nice option ($1100) but I'm still not sure I'll want that big of a screen once I have it, I have put our bedroom 43" on my desk and I felt like I could handle that no problem... This is frustrating for sure, I can get 24 month 0% interest financing from Amazon whatever I get since I have an Amazon Card so no matter what I get I suppose that aspect of it won't sting because that's a lot of time to pay it off, I'm still paying off my A7RII that I purchased on 12-Mo 0% though lol.

I was a member on this forum (same screen name) ages ago too but had to re-register since it's been years... Hello again.

I must admit I am drawn to the Sony XBR43X800D because of it's price and I've grown a new fondness for Sony after buying my A7RII (can't love it enough) but that's a silly reason... This is a very difficult decision, I wish more people in my line of work used UHD TVs as monitors so I could get some feedback from some lol.

EDIT: Holy Crap, I thought 24-Month 0% Interest was good but Newegg offers 36 MONTHS 0% if balance is paid in full, 3 whole years, damn... All of the Samsung TVs qualify that they sell too, just in case anyone has a Newegg card and doesn't want to swing all the cash up front.

I might consider the KS8000-8500 if I can pay that thing off at a leisurely pace (assuming work is slow) otherwise I'd pay it off pretty quick to be honest. Just a heads up if nobody knew about that though, a ridiculously generous amount of time to cover the balance without interest!

If you're looking for a screen to do professional work I don't think UHD TVs are the best for that. A proper 4k monitor may be better. I guess you could simply color calibrate the TV yourself if you wanted to though?

Yeah, that's the only thing I'm worried about w/ a TV but everything else about one seems pretty awesome. I've been getting by with using a 2007 Dell 30" IPS that's been getting dimmer, having image retention/burn-in issues, etc. for a few years now so I would still think a UHD TV would be an improvement over what I'm currently using but do agree I feel I'm taking a risk thinking about trying it... I think I'm pretty set on the KS8000/8500 IF I do in fact go for a UHDTV though. I have an articulating arm mount picked out and everything if I do go that route I figure it won't take up all my desk space and I'll be able to have it a couple inches further away (or move my desk a small amount from the wall) but would be able to pull it out 20" and swivel it quite a bit to the side for when I want to get out of the chair and move to the sofa that's nearby for movies/games and so on.

I wish I could find a 40-50" monitor suited more for my needs that didn't cost a fortune I'd totally go for that but I'm not too keen on going too much over $1000 anyway so it's 32" or a UHDTV.

My safest bet would be to buy one locally at Best Buy or something that way I could return it if I was unhappy with the results, trouble is I was going to use my Newegg card and get 36 months special financing so I can pay it off as slowly as I want (or in a few months, whatever lol).

I have to admit... this looks pretty awesome for editing, assuming I could get it calibrated well enough (using more up-to-date gear, of course).

Anyone have any experience with the Sony XBR65X930D? I'm thinking about selling my current model (before prices plummet further) and grab one of those as a replacement.
I have a long-time affinity for Sony (yeah, I know they're no longer what they were) and that seemed to be a solid model for a fairly reasonable price.
