I built the system in the sig for about 1700 shipped. It was a completely new system. I intended to make it into a high end system from overclocking. My 3D Mark 2005 goal was lofty, i wanted 7000. If i voltmodded my X850xt i am sure i could get it, but i don't intend to. Also my Arctic silencer for my radeon comes soon and that may help.
The Venice didnt hit my intended goal of 2.7. 2.6 is nothing to be ashamed of however and i am happy with it. The ram ended up not being the crucial value i wanted, but the m16fd chips. At 289HTT witht he 5:6 divider the ram would not be stable even with more voltage. The speed would have been right around 240mgz. At the 2:3 divider the ram ran at 185. So i was a little dissapointed that my ram needed to be underclocked. But i tried one more thing. Lower the CPU multiplier to 8x and increase the HTT to 325 from 289. The mobo handled it suprisingly and now the CPU is at its max speed of 2600, the ram is at 215 and all is 100% 24 hr prime stable!
The X850XT i bought about a month ago from ZZF for $280. With the fan at 100% it can run at the speeds in the sig. Normally when i game i run it at PE speeds because the noise is distracting. I bought the Arctic cooling AC5 Rev 2 and it should come soon. Maybe i can get a few more MGZ out of her then aswell as run it at those speeds in sig without noise.
I know a lot of friends say to me "Can OC'ing really give that much of a performance boost?" I believe it does. Here are a few screenies just from 3d Mark 2005. I'll make some of Super Pi and Sisoft later.
The gain in points is mainly just from the graphics card, but look at the CPU mark difference, wow.
Anyway, for 1700 this system turned out pretty good. It is fast as hell and is an awesome gamer.
