My Experience With Origin PC

For several weeks now I've been looking at purchasing a new PC; my last, from 4 years ago, was from Velocity Micro, and while I've been very happy with it, their ratings have slowly dropped over time as they've expanded. I narrowed my choices down to DigitalStorm, MainGear, Puget Systems, Falcon Northwest and Origin...I sent my order in to Origin yesterday. What sold me on them was their willingness to listen to what I wanted, to add non-standard items to the build, their attitude of, "What can we do to EARN your business", and their high level of prompt, professional communication throughout the process. As the next two weeks or so pass, I'll post how things continue to go with them...I think they may very well be one of the bright new up and comers among PC builders.

How much has it set you back and your build ?

I'd be tempted to use them also if I had a lot more money to throw around :)

I too am interested in hearing what you are purchasing! as well as those "non-standard" items you are referring to.

I am glad to hear that the experience has been positive so far and hope that it remains so throughout, but what made you want to buy a boutique computer versus building your own? Not flame bait, just curious.

Their prices are a bit on the high side,a system similar to mine would cost around $2,680,I only paid $2,000 including shipping.

I completely understand that I could have done the build myself and saved about 20-25% of the cost. It's a matter of choice. I like the idea of having a system warranty, and Origin offers an excellent one; 1st year labor and parts, they pay for shipping both ways, lifetime labor and support after that. I know that the "lifetime" of a PC is essentially 3-4 years depending on your needs, but it's something I prefer...like I said, a matter of choice.

For my build I went with the Lian-Li A70-F case, ASUS Rampage III Extreme board, Core i7 930 processor, 6GB Corsair memory, 750 Watt Corsair power supply, Thermalright TrueBlack Ultra120 Extreme CPU heatsink, 500GB, 6 GB/s HD for boot, 1 TB, 6 GB/s HD for storage, two optical drives, EVGA 896MB GTX 275 video card, and Win 7 Professional. During the time I was specifying the build I wanted, Dan (the sales rep I worked with) and I talked about alternative cases, being able to specify particular brand/models of HDs, variations on sound cards other than those listed, different video card selections other than those listed, etc...and there was never a hiccup. He was MORE than willing to special order parts, he would make suggestions, backed with sound logic, on the parts you were requesting vs. other alternatives, he never pushed to get the purchase done on the spot...he was patient, well-informed, and consumer-oriented. I couldn't ask for a better pre-sales experience. When I did a build of a similiar rig through a competitor, he was willing to work on shipping and costs to bring the two more in line, and was once again well-informed and logical on the other build's warranty vs. their own and some of the parts used vs. the build I had with them. Again, never pushy...more like talking to an advisor vs. talking to a sales rep. Once I place my order, I made one additional change and it was handled flawlessly. I was able to specify particular brands/models for the HDs I wanted and the video card I wanted above and beyond those initially specified on their site; additionally, some of the requests I made (with the logic I made behind them) were added as choices on their web site within days; what more can you ask for?

I'll keep you posted.

Standard: Stage 1: Insta-foam packaging creates a custom mold inside of your system to protect your internal components from moving during shipping. This protection is key against your system being dropped or taking any type of shock or impact.
Stage 2: Every ORIGIN system is placed inside a black velvet sleeve to protect your chassis form scratches or scuffs.
Stage 3: Custom foam inserts are wrapped around the top and bottom of your chassis to absorb the impact of any shock or impact to your crate.
Stage 4: Every ORIGIN system is placed inside of a durable, thick cardboard box and sealed with high resistance tape.

For Premium, Add: Stage 5: Just like fine art, your ORIGIN box is then placed inside a solid 1-inch thick wooden crate with another 1-inch of padding between the crate and your cardboard box.
Stage 6: Your crate armor is then sealed with multiple two-inch long metal screws, securing your system against tampering or any external exposure during shipment.

Looking good.
