My E6300 has an Allendale Stepping!!

My E6300 has the following stepping information on the IHS

6300 SL9TA MALAY
1.8GHZ/2M/1066/06
Q640A516

I've looked all over (or had google look all over rather) and have not seen any other E6300s with a Q6** stepping. Every E6300 in the [H]ardforum core 2 overclocking database has an L6** stepping and Every E4300 has a Q6** stepping. Does anyone else have a Q640 or anything like it and how is your overclocking going?

I haven't had a chance to optimize anything just yet. I was running 3.115GHz at 1.4125V but I just got new memory with tighter timings so I have to find out how high I can get my memory before I can start messing with the processor again.
 
The newer ones are coming like that. I just got an e6400 that had the Q as well.

The letter signifies the plant that they are made in, so intel is obviously switching plants for the production of the e6300/6400 and maybe the others (e6600/e6700)

It is also possible that a plant (L) is tooled for Conroes and another (Q) for Allendales and this is the best explanation I believe for this. Since Allendales is designed from the ground up to have only 2 Mb of cache, it make sense to build E4300, E6300 and E6400 with the Allendale core. To make sure it's a Conroe now and later is to get a 4 Mb version (E6320 and E6420) coming in 1 month.
 
i am the first one to post bout my cpu with Q--- code, check the database it's there... also my steppin isn't B2 lol. just minor error on database, but just look for my name on the database and u will see it. :p

It does look like the new e6300's and 6400's are Allendales from the ground up. I got this link from one of BillParrish's posts,

Notice that the old e6300's and e6400's are "Die size: 143 mm²"
the new ones with L2 steppings are, "Die size: 111 mm²"

So they even have a slightly smaller die size.

My new e6400 is,

I can get it stable up to 3.0GHz.

At 3.2GHz. It will boot into windows and run super pi but it will crash when running OCCPT.

Still a good CPU but I think the older conroe steppings were able to OC a little better.

I actually had mine stable at 3.115 GHz at 1.3375V and with further voltage increases I was almost able to get it stable at 3.430 GHz although I began running into heat issues. I am going to make sure my thermal compound job is adequate as i'm using the thermalright xp-120 which should perform well enough to handle 1.45V I would think. When running OCCT, It does fine, until the temperature gets to 78-79 then says it crashes. I'm going to check the thermal compound and then maybe get a 120x120x38mm fan if I really feel like it is necessary. 3.115 is WAY fast compared to my Athlon 4400+ though so at this point it is just an e-Peen issue.

It make sense. E6300 and E6400 have only 2 MB so it's more efficient to use a Allendale core. The E6x20 processors will use the original Conroe core.

But it cost same price as the 4 meg caches. Then they should drop the prices on the 2meg E63-6400

Where are you going to find a 6320 or 6420 for sale right now? Who is to say they won't drop the price? I think you are jumping the gun here.

I agree, the 4 Mb versions isn't released yet and will be on april 22nd. By then, I bet the 2 Mb versions will disappear or get the price slashed between E4x00 prices and E6x20 prices.
 
I dont understand why anybody would buy an E6300/E6400 right now when its virtually the same as an E4300 minus the 9x multi......:confused:

Once the E6320 and E6420 are released they will cost the same as the 2Mb Cache, the older E6300/E6400 are on their way out, but it will take some time to EOL them, so it makes sense for the moment to still make them cheaper to make with the Allendale core.

The entire E6xxx series will have 4Mb caches in the end
 
I have an older 6400 ( got it in September ) and it hits (and is at currently) 3.7GHz on my BFG 680i board - not to mention that my G.Skill 6400HZ from the same month hits DDR2 1200 at 2.4v. Must have gotten lucky and picked a great day to buy
 
How are these new E63/6400s overclocking compared to the E4300? I don't have a need for VT but I need to get my computer running really soon and can't wait to have it down another month.
 
Oddly enough I just installed my new E6300 last night and it had Allendale stepping. I thought it was odd, but not really surprising.
