;) all about keeping em cool

so... did you just have those two dual-80's lying around or did you buy them specificly for this purpous?

Looks like a little more distance between the fan and rad might do some good. Ever thought about going 172mm? I hear you get instant fan control on that one if you put a 5k pot between the yellow wire and gnd. I own one but havn't yet tried. 235CFM max

Damn I was looking for one of those rads. Everywhere they are either sold out or $50+. Are they no longer being produced?

Seriously, it looks like you're using about 1/3 of that radiator  You need a shroud, and fast.

thirded, with the depth of that shroud (nothing basically) you are turning your dual dual 80mm rads into less than a single 120mm rad (you have the space in the middle with no fins so its less than a 120.

You need to redo the acrylic shroud so that the fan stands off at least 1/2-3/4" from the face of the radiators.

Well I have a BI micro (1) myself, which has about 1/4" of "plenum" space. But that just doesn't seem like enough to coax air from those edges. Not necessarily redo, but maybe slap another piece of that thick plexi between, cut like a gasket, to get a little more room.

That still wont be enough plenum depth. Take the PA160 to be the ideal case, as this combination is very similar in size. The PA160 was designed very carefully from the fin density to the shroud depth. The depth of the shroud is about 40mm (taken from the fact that the radiator w/o shroud is 50mm deep and with it is 90mm deep). That is about an inch and a half. I was recommending at the very least to make his shroud about 3/4" of an inch deep, half of the optimal distance but still enough to get most of the performance out of the rad. 1/4" just wont cut it.

if thats 1/4" thick plexy (it looks pretty thick) then a gasket made of that + the 1/4" plenum means 1/2" between the rad fins and the original plexi plate. Add another gasket piece and thats 3/4". See what Im gettin at? I just didn't want to tell him to redo the work he has already done, merely add a bit more to it.

yes by all means he doesn't need to redo the plexi piece he has already made, merely elevate it more off of the surface...the more the better. I still believe that he should get at least 3/4" in addition to whatever plenum the radiator already has.

And also thanks alot guys for all the input. This is my water cooling set I have done in almost 4 years. The last set up I did was my XP1700 and GF3 to give you a idea of how long ago. Looks like there has been alot of improvements to the ways of doing things and the thinking behind them.

Now that I look at it I understand why you would want more space there so I will be hitting the table saw when I get home from work today and move that puppy a little bit.

Hella

yeah alot has changed since the old days of homemade blocks and rad cubes. Not much thought went into such things besides getting the fan on and filling it up.

Figures Danger Den gets em in after I have been watching the stock for about 2 weeks then gave up and refurbished an old black ice extreme (1x120) I had.
