My DNS Sucks

My isp's dns server sucks balls..... its down again for the 3rd time in 4 days and I cant access anything other than HardForum.. which is very weird since I thought DNS entries were stored in a hosts file and looked up there before going out to the DNS server...

anyway, does anyone have a fast DNS server I can use instead of my crappy one? Thanks
 
The ip address for the open dns server are:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
 
OpenDNS is "OK"..if your ISP have sluggish DNS servers...you'll find OpenDNS may work better for you. Most of the ISPs in my area are good, so the several times I've tried OpenDNS...I found them to be slower.
