Alright, I mainly play games on 1024x768 and Hl2 supposeably will run bette ron ati or so ive heard but looking at the reviews in the games i mostly play found here http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/r420-2_35.html

The x800pro performs the best and beats the ultra sometimes.

read and find out...

Do you think I'm making the right choice to buy the x800pro tommarow?

No, but it is important to reach a conclusion by yourself. Personally I would get a GT. It seems much more future proof to me.

Having said that I think you should certainly get what you desire and not worry about what other people think.

You did ask though

If you play games at 1024*768 either card is going to be way more than you'll need, for a long time to come. That means the extra features of the 6800 are even more important, IMHO. The features may not be used yet, but if games start coming out that support the 6800 features you'll be happy to have one.

not to start a fanyboy war!!!!!!, but both from cards from both camps are awsome! the GT and Ultra from nvidia and pro and XT from ATI. I would say that the ultra and XT are very comparable cards. This card wins this test at this res and this card wins this test with af/aa. thats basically goes back and forth back and forth. now both these cards are over 500 bucks so keep that in mind. id say either of these cards whould be a good choice if you have the cash. I personally think the ultra is more future proof. with every driver release the ultra is gaining more and more performance where the x800 is kinda stagnant since its based of the old architecture (r300) and already has a pretty polished driver. It also has sm 3.0 support and ultra shadow 2 (ati has 3dc and hyper z) but i still think they future proof the Nvidia cards better. if youve seen doom 3 benchies remember thats without ultra shadow 2 enabled. now dont base your purchasing decision off of one game but just thought i would point that out.

HL2: i say these cards are going to perform pretty equal. Every beta test of half life 2 i have seen shows the cards either evenly matched or the ultra taking the lead. Ive seen stories about people talking about 30% more performance with the x800 but its very generic info and theres no proof to back it up. They say it by X800 vs current nvidia hardware. well is that an x800 xt or pro is that nvidia 6800 or 5900? it doesnt specify. so until i see the proof im gonna take that info with a grain of salt. Also HL2 will use SM 3.0 so i dont think the 30% is a realistic figure.

The pro vs the GT is a different story. in this situation i would have to call the GT the better card. These 2 cards are both about 400 bucks. assuming you can find one and the gt is just the overall better performer. 16 pipes and overclocks to ultra speeds. the x800pro will overclock to XT speeds in most cases but its missing 4 pipes. you can mod it but you will void warranty and its not always guarenteed.

thats ok more opinions...
at 1024x768, you cant lose either way getting a GT or x800 pro. go with whatever you think is what you want, contray to what the benches may say. both cards are great, but if i had to choose one i would lean to the GT.

ok gt gt gt lol its out of stock so ill have to wait or should if i see my retailer has one?

I'd go with the x800pro, then you can see how much faster it runs with its brilinear filter against nvidia's full trilinear like in that review you posted. Then after you realize that the 6800GT has a brilinear filter too and beats the x800pro in basically every game when on equal playing ground, you can write xbitlabs and thank them for such a helpful review. CC the letter to driverheaven while you are at it.

Actually I think "hooked on phonics" or a spelling workbook would be a better use of your money. :p j/k Personally...if I were getting anything current by Ati I would settle for nothing less than the XTPE. The price on the X800pro would have to come down considerably before I would choose one over a 6800GT.

/\

LOL. I'm very sorry. Is this better? J/K

I remmber hooked on fonics(SP)
