I've been looking to upgrade myself in the GPU area but I am currently on the fence on what to get. Here are my options;

A: Crossfire current X850XT PE
B: X1800XT (more than likely the 256MB version)

The reason I am torn is because I have a Crossfire motherboard and I already have an X850XT Platinum Edition, but I want a little more in the graphics department than it can offer, I also want to spend less than $300. They each have their strengths and weaknesses, for instance;

A: From what I've seen it would be a tad faster than the single X1800XT, Less expensive (the CF edition card is like $240), Get to make use of my CF mobo and be cool with Crossfire :cool:
B: Less oppurtunity for errors with a single card solution. But, I don't sell old hardware. So my still decent X850XT PE will have to be put in the closet with my X800XL, 9800, and the rest of the good ol' troops if I spring for the X1800XT. :(

So help me decide, please :D

A) why dont you sell old hardware :p

B) Option B seems better IMO... you could upgrade for very cheap if you went B... and sold the old card

and you could probably find an X1900 for just a little more then the X1800...

just a thought

Yeah, I'm ordering next week so I'm going to be looking for deals, but as of right now those are my options.

Go with crossfire if you want to, it'll probably have slightly better performance at a cheaper price. You won't have HDR and nice SM3.0 effects though. I guess that's the trade-off.

Was sort of in the same situation as yourself a couple of weeks ago except that I had an X800XL and a nForce mobo. I want thinking about getting a X800 Crossfire Edition video cards. I wound up getting an X1800XT 256MB and then a week later decided to get an Abit AT8 32X motherboard and an X1800 Crossfire Edition videocard. Couldn't be any happier.
