Alright well upon turning my computer on today and removing my headphones from their jack, I was welcomed with a nice critical error that caused me to reboot windows. Once I had rebooted it seemed that itunes would not play anything. Confused, I proceeded to update itunes assuming that would fix my problem and after updating itunes I found that it still refused to play my music. I opened a few video files that were on my desktop to find they also lacked audio. I eventually found that my computer was now sans audio drivers. Still have no clue why a reboot removed my audio drivers, but, I figured "whatever" and jumped on over to the creative site for some A2 zs drivers. Downloaded and started the installer... no card found..... long story short I popped in the install disk for the thing and got the drivers off the disk. So I want to know WHY THE FUCK DO I NEED THAT DISK! Is it so hard for creative to make drivers that install? Anyway it's fixed now but creative has some serious problems if their own drivers won't find my card.

I know you're venting, but my problems with drivers and the original Audigy have meant that I haven't been back to Creative. There was a time when I had 5 PCs all running SB Live or Audigies, DVD Blaster in one PC (THAT was some money wasted, back in the 400MHz days). I game with headphones and have been enjoying SoundStorm/Realtek for the past four years with no complaints. What a shame, even in a monopoly Creative can't put out a solid product. I had hope when the X-Fi was initially released, but all the problem reports have steered me away from that one too. :(

lol. yea soundstorm owns. i got a couple quirks with the drivers tho. nothing serious.

last time i used a driver from a CD was like... never. LOL. usually i just chuck em, or use em as coasters :D. so if i install a sound card, get myself a cup of coffie, with CD as coaster, go to download drivers and they fail to install, and i need the cds id be giving my clients the "...................................................................." look.

no im exaggerating a little. only after a successful install do the CDs become coasters.

What really irritates me is with some Audigy and many ATi All-In-Wonder cards, where they require you to insert the "original' driver CD just to run the upgrade. It's drivers, people. Come on!

I have had the exact same problem with Creative products in the past as well. I dont understand how some 35MB driver file that I have downloaded could possible require the original drivers to be installed for it to "update." None of my other hardware requires this, it seems as though instead of looking for the physical card, the new drivers are always just looking for the old drivers.

I usually just manually extract and install the drivers. I always works and I don't have to deal with their junky control panel.

You can now downlaod the drivers(and drivers only) from creative without the use of any CD...
Welcome to today :p
Never had any problems with Creative soundcards back from my SB16 days.
And NO soundcard can touch the X-Fi when it comes to EAX or headphone gaming...fact of life.

Terra...

Hey Terra,

I like your .sig. :)

Anyway, I was honestly thinking of getting an X-Fi for my gaming machine when I built it, but it was the week [H] ran a report on the massive sound quality issues being reported by X-Fi owners. Any comment on how big you think that problem really is? I haven't done any research, and I'm sorry for that.

yeah the new X-fi drivers suck donkey balls. otherwise it's ok if you get the first update, there have been two so far the second being the sucker of donkey testes.

A large prtion og those problem are indentified now.
Al arge part was problems with nForce4 boards(I still don't think all borads are fixed via BIOS update still, though), the other where some bad cards, but that should have been recitified now.

Right now I am even running a BETA-soundriver from Creative, rock stable.
Completed PREY with no glicthes and NFSMW, Rome - Total War, Pacific Fighters, Quake4, FEAR, CoD2, and GRAW has no problems either.

Terra - I don't regret getting mine :)

I run nforce4, with BIOS updates from foxconn few and far between, so now I'm a even a little more nervous. :(

In fact, I just went out and checked for a BIOS update. The last one was February and the notes read: "Patch code location put Wrong let unknow thing happen."

NICE. How hard would it be to hire some documentation specialists that are fluent in english?
