Recently got some AS5 and applied it, though i'm not 100% sure I did in the right amount and my temps seem almost unchanged from before or worse even(had some default thermal paste on then), will it go down with time as it settles in or should I try an re-apply it(already have once).

Btw temp is at 58(!) degrees right now fulload, 3000 RPM on fan and about 20 ambient temp. Heatsink feels warm but not *that* warm.

Sry if this is a dumb question but I like my system coool.:(

those temps aren't great but not too bad either.

if you just applied it, the AS needs to go through the break in period. Wait a couple days and see what the temps are

then report your idle and load temps

What CPU cooler are you using? and did you follow the directions for AS5 and how to apply it properly?

Just curious..

Personally I think 58C is way too high. I've got my BIOS alarm set to 55C, and I never run hotter than about 40C@1.8v. You've got something wrong there, unless you've got the voltage completely cranked (2v+).

The most common mistake people make when applying thermal paste is to use too much. Try cleaning off the the bottom of the HSF and the exposed part of the CPU of all thermal compound and try again. You should only have to apply about a half grain of rice's worth of thermal paste to the die of your cpu, then use a plastic ruler or something flat and non-metal to spread it across the die. You should end up with less than a millimeter of paste on it.

The idea behind the paste is to fill in the microscopic imperfections in the base of the HSF and the exposed core of the CPU and to conduct heat between the two. If your CPU is running at 58C, your HSF should be hot to touch. If it isn't, it means that the heat isn't making it to to the HSF, and you need to reapply the paste.

I'm using a Whisperock IV with an 80mm enermax ontop, reason i'm concerned is temps where 52ish degrees MAX under fulloud previously and yea I did follow the instructions even rubbed the heatsink in like you didn't have to do.

Anyway, i'm gonna re-apply with extremely little on this time and hope it works..will post results - if I don't, you know I probably crushed my cpu die.

After two attempts I thoroughly redid the application and now it's running fulload 45 degrees, perhaps not the greatest but sometimes you have to sacrifice a dozen degrees or so for a more silent system(I got 35 degrees max RPM and hood off).
AS5 sure rules eh.:D
