i ordered my e6600 and Asus P5W DH DELUXE. I need a memory suggestion. I need 2 gigs that must work with my board. I want to overclock too. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
 
with a 6600 you are probally looking at 400FSB for a nice 24/7 setting which would net you around 3.4GHZ. I would not spend the extra money on memory un-less you have good cooling IE high end air or W/Cing. Get a nice pair of LL PC 5400/5300 as most can do PC 667 speeds easy.

This stuff works with any motherboard will do 1000 MHz (500 FSB with 1/1 ratio) and will enhance the overclocking capabilities of all the Conroe CPU's It's also EPP enhanced (makes O/C'ing a snap) and is nVidia SLI certified. I ordered mine already should be here tuesday :p

Conroe doesn't give a rats ass about RAM timings and these Patriot sticks will take you to DDR2-800 and beyond. DDR2-800+ speeds should be more than adequate for a CPU with a 9x multiplier.

Your completely wrong about the timings, tighter timings make a very noticeable difference... but yes if you have a 9x multiplier, those sticks should work fine if your trying to reach 800mhz @ 4-4-4-12. But someone like me whose trying to get to 1000mhz+ @4-4-4-12... those modules wouldn't work.

No, I'm not wrong about the timings and I'm tired of arguing about it with people who wasted their money on expensive RAM:

On Intel Core 2 pure synthetic memory bandwidth benchmarks show a 30+% increase, but this does not translate in a noticeable performance bump in games and applications, where the increase, at best, is ~6% and this going from cheap high latency PC3200 to expensive low latency PC6400, and while these expensive modules do take the performance crown, their lead over the mostly cheaper PC4200 rated sticks is smaller than 3% in real world benchmarks.

So it doesn’t matter much what memory speed/timings you buy, the value line will suit the Intel Core 2 system just fine, but do keep one thing in mind, as in our testing we found performance actually decreases a bit going from PC4200 (533) to PC5300 (667)!

 
Conroe isn't like A64, X2, P4 systems.

Latencies are not as important. Intel spent a lot of R&D to minimize the latencies involved with a NB memory control, etc.. between having a good shared cache design & a really GREAT prefetching system, the latencies and speed of ram are not that important. Yes, it does make a little difference, but NOT NEARLY as much as it has with past architectures.

I'd recommend the Corsair as a first choice since its rated for 1.9v.

These other rams are just selling you overclocked ram, if it takes 2.1-2.2v to get the timings & speed they are selling you. If Corsair will do what it says at 1.9v, then when YOU decide to give it 2.0-2.2v you might get DDR2 1000+

Would you rather a Conre XE that does 2.93 Ghz at stock voltage or an e6700 that does 2.93 Ghz at 1.6v ? (assuming they were the same price range like this ram is)

B/c thats what they're doing selling you something that does the same speed at 10%+ higher voltage (= more heat)
 
these core 2 chips are a horse of another color all togeather .

what worked on the old P-4's is only a marginal advantage at best with them .

to my shock --some of the cheapo systems i put togeather with the $60 asrock via 880 MB's with the core 2 running regular DDR-400 when overclocked are running faster than some other MB's i've put togeather running DDR 667 as the same MHZ?

that makes me wonder what the hell is going on with the core 2 ?

i wish somebody would build a dedicated overclocking MB with it optimised for DDR-400 and core 2 . i bet people would be schocked if it turned in some good scores. and get this --the asrock is held back with 4xpci-e and saddlebacked ddr/ddr2 and being a el-chepo migration MB--lol :)
 
Tha Patriots that were recomended are good for the price. Unfortuantely I wasn't really able to test them well because my Asus only let me put 2.2 into them. However with that I was able to bring them to 900MHZ! Good pair. Howver for a few $ more you can have MICRON Fat B's. The G.Skill use Micron Fat b's as well. I went for the Ballistix simply becasue of price and why not go to the source of what runs the best memories out there?

I'm also sure you could underclock those Ballistix. I don't know but that's whats great about micron mem, you could do so much with it. Higher adn lowr timings than stock. Higher and lower V than stock. Just put fan over them and you'll be okay. Well, I do that with all my mems.

Had that mobo, ASROCK, but the first bios didn't let me do much with my memory and OC. :(
 
I'd go with the Patriot, lots of people are having great luck OCing with Patriot RAM, plus, it is cheap.

lol. did you actually LOOK at the chart? Look at the "differences" there. And thats sandra anyway. Sandra doesnt mean shit to real world apps, as has been proven time and again.
$300 for 2 gig is laughable.

They show ONE "benchmark" which is known not to translate to real world performance at all.

Look at the move from 939 to AM2. Huge increase in bandwidth (according to Sisoft) but practically no difference in real world apps. And its was talking about 533 to 1066 transfers completing twice as fast.

Getting the Intel Retail promo thing, which is including an Intel 965 board. Intel boards(save the bad axe, which this isn't) dont' OC for ANYTHING. I'm presenting trying to decide if I want to spend the money, get a decent OC'ing board/ better RAM, or if I just want to get the basic stuff.


So the question is, with a e6300 in a Non-overclocking system, what's the best memory to get? I'm fine with the valueselect type stuff, but if something that's DDR2800 is going to perform better(sans OC"ing) then DDR2533, then I get the 800. But I just don't know otherwise.

Just get some DDR2-533 value memory (Corsair, Kingston, etc.) if you never plan to overclock. It will run at 1:1 by default and will give you the best performance.

Well, I'll tell you what, I'll take my 276.00 Corsair DDR-II 800 memory that I can run at 1066(5.5.5.15 but this doesn't really matter with a conroe does it) MHz plus on any motherboard i want, any platform that requires DDR-II and overclock all I want and not have to worry about memory problems any day. Honestly tell me you can do that with any other bargain memory out there.
 
You can do that with most Micron based memory. For much cheaper too

Look at previous link. Best bang for buck bar none are those Ballistix, for now.

1:1 isn't the best performance. That was only true for early nforce (AMD) boards that 1:1 was "best".

Now that said, DDR533 will be 99% as fast as if you ran it with DDR667 with the higher ratio. So IF its cheap you want, etc... you can get WHATEVER DDR2 ram you want. 533, 667, etc.... any Cas, b/c thats NOT very important for Core2 either.

You've been brainwashed by the memory companies. It's the chips inside that count, not the brand.

Yes, I agree it's the chips that count. And Corsair make the best. In my Opinion.
 
Corsair doesn't make anything. All there products are rebranded. Very few companies actually make their own mem.

I don't know what IC's are in there but... but I think they are Fat B's. If that is the case then they are Micron. If that is the case why pay so much when you can get them MUCH cheaper and straight from the source?
 
funny that alot of the guys who insist on expensive ram for conroe, even tho it wont boost performance are unwilling to spend $250 for a mainboard.

It's not a matter of boosting performance, its the overhead corsair memory allows which absolutely removes the "maybe my memory is failing" part of trying to reach that insane overclock we all strive for. Oh BTW my Infinity 975X was not cheap, and as soon as nForce 590 arrives for Conroe I will be the first to get one, so spending money on motherboards, to me is more important than buying memory, that's why I buy the good stuff, one time, so that part of the equation is completed.
