My computer needs help!!

ok this evening I was uploading pics when my computer froze. I hit the reset button and went away for a while, when I came back it was still on the windows start up screen. again I hit the reset button. I tried this a few times and went to the bios to check them out. to be on the safe side I set it back to default and then set things to what they should be. tried again but now it does the same thing. reinstalled windows xp but now it is in a constant loop of restarting ( the screen comes up that says your computer may have been shut down improperly ect. no matter what I choose it restarts and goes back to that page only to repeat the process.

Please help me:confused:
 
Take out all unnecessary parts to test to see if your mobo/CPU/RAM are causing a problem. When reinstalling did you reformat?? Setup a new partition??
 
forgot to mention that some times it will do a memory test before it will get to the "your computer may not have been shut down properly" screen and I opened the case and the video card retainer wasn't pushed down the whole way.
I will take out components and test it tommorow (to tired now)
and no I did'nt reformat or set up a partition
 
when u said u set stuff to default then to the way they should be, does that mean u left it a default or changed it to what u had it before? try setting everything to default and running it like that, if not, run windows in safe mode. if it still restarts, its hardware. if it runs fine, its a drivers. thats what i would do
 
ok I disconnected my optical drives and my sound card and reset the bios via the jumper. now it is saying "cpu is unworkable or has been changed please check cpu softmenu". Went into the softmenu and everything seems to be fine. does this mean my cpu is toast?:confused:

When you reset your BIOS you likely dropped the FSB to 100 or something that your proc isn't running at. Can you give us a list of your (relevant) hardware? Check the FSB setting in you BIOS and adjust it to your CPUs FSB. We are not at the keychain point yet. :)

fsb was set to auto probly fine but I set it to 333mhz still same problem.
components:
athlon xp 2500
abit nf7 series mobo
200gb hd
geforce 5600fx
512 ram
thats all that connected as of now

sorry if this is a double post but the computer im on (imac) is well being it self:rolleyes
 
alright everything seems to be working now. I re reinstalled windows and everything seems to be back to normal
 
It's been years since I reloaded my main rig at home, running 2k for over 2 years.

Maintainece + safe computing=happy OS.
