my computer is melting again!!

i put this under case mods because thats what i was doing when this happend. i connected everything right and it worked great, i turned on the computer(it wouldnt boot, but i dont know why) and when i closed the case, and turned it on, freakin smoke started coming out. i had no heat problems but when i closed the case, fwoosh, 2 of my wires started to melt. what am i doing wrong.

did you sleeve the wires? might have put them together wrong
 
no, and its only the red wire that is melted!!! the other 3 are fine, but the red looks like, well, i got so upset that i couldnt work on my computer the rest of the night (and thats upset)
 
you cross the 5v on to the ground pins maybe on a floppy drive or something, i watched someone do that in my tech school white smoke went every where LOL
 
Did you pinch a wire when you closed the case? Go through and check all the insulation and see if there are any nicks in it where it could ground out to the case.
 
what i dont get is why it is only the red wire and it is only 2 of them. and the weiredest(sp) part is that it was next to my radiator but the radiator was not warm at all.
 
Its only the red wire because it sounds like you shorted out the 5v rail. Are these two wires on different lines coming out of the PSU, or are they on the same line seperated by a molex? Check for nicks on the wires, it sounds like your shorting out somewhere. If your rad was to melt the wire you got other problems, pvc insulation is good for 350*. It has to be a short your rad wont get that hot.

Then that is where your short is, it grounded to something and burned its way up. Check above and below there for missing insulation or any device that could be causing a problem. Replace the messed up wires, and test it.

thanks for all the help. but what im worried about is, if i turn my computer back on, and this happens again, will i fry the board or something? also, could this come from connecting too many things together, and how many is too many?
 
You probably will not fry anything other than the PSU...

If you had too much connected through the PSU, you would have unstable voltages or not be able to boot. This is definently not from overloading the PSU.

Your red wire is shorted somewhere to the ground and the PSU is too shitty to shut off automatically with a short (probably). You would be lucky if your PSU still worked, I would not be suprised if you blew several capacitors inside it.
 
its hiper, do you know if hiper shuts off automatically, it doesnt matter tooooo much i just bought it so RMA time!! what can i do in the future to prevent this?
 
Pics are to see the damage and tell you the problem and how to fix it. BTW there are no pics in your sale thread.

Did you fix the wires? Dont turn the damn thing on until you do, did you ever check for possible shorts? It's kind of hard to help someone who dosent give any info, and has no idea about computers. Whats all connected to what power supply? If you turn on the computer with melted off insulation on the wires as soon as they get grounded out its going to do the same thing again.
 
hey thanks for the insult, but your probably right. how does one check for possible shorts, sorry electronics aint my thaang. what does it matter whats connected to what? the one that burned out was both radiators off a bigwater, and a cold cathode
 
Not a insult just stating facts, I have told you several times told look for broken or cut insulation in the wires. A short is when a voltage wire touches ground. It matters what it is connected to because that could be causing your short. One of the devices on that line could have failed in some way grounding out. I have told you this several times, follow what has been said in this thread and then let us know what the problem is.
 
there was a crimp in the wiring, but it wasnt my fault!!!! had to cut the sleeving off my Hiper powersupply the 5v was stressed and had like a white pressure mark, thanks for all yous guyses help
